Joshua's POV

When we arrived at the pack house, Alpha Christian shifted back to his human form.

"I missed this feeling!" he howled in delight, pumping his clenched fists in the air.  Alpha Christian didn't break a sweat during that run?! I glared daggers at him, panting heavily.

The house in question accommodated new wolves who recently joined the pack. They would live in this house while waiting for their new homes to be built. Upon entering the building, I saw my dad in the courtyard with our Beta, Caleb. They were conducting another intensive training session with a group of elite warriors. I cleared my throat. Dad turned around and gave me a questioning look when he saw Alpha Christian beside me.

"Joshua, who is this man?" Dad asked, eyes turning red. A wave of pheromones surrounded me and Alpha Christian, who didn't seem fazed. I held my breath, my inner wolf absolutely terrified. Caleb and the elite warriors held their weapons up, waiting for instructions.

"Uh... C-can we just explain the situation elsewhere?" I asked pleadingly. My Dad's eyes returned to their original color, but he didn't stop releasing his pheromones.

"I'll be there in a moment," Dad said curtly. He ordered Caleb and the elite warriors put their weapons down.

I ushered Alpha Christian into the private lounge and offered him a drink. My dad entered the room a few minutes later with stiff shoulders.

Alpha Christian sat opposite of me and Dad. The tension in the room was palpable. After a few beats of pin-drop silence, Alpha Christian finally spoke up.

"Joshua is a very special wolf who inherited special abilities from his parents,"  he started. My Dad's expression fell at the mention of my biological parents. "There are eleven other children who are just like him," he continued. Dad and I listened intently.

"You're just like me, Joshua. You were blessed with the immense power of controlling the wind,"

My eyes widened in shock.

"Wind powers?" I asked, but stopped me from bombarding Alpha Christian with more questions. "Every wolf who has an ability like yours owns a pendant,"

What did the pendant have to do with any of this?! And here I thought the pendant was cursed.

"Your pendant is a medium that regulates your power output," he explained. "It also prevents your body from suffering the consequences of overusing your powers," he added. "If that pendant gets destroyed, nobody can control the element of wind anymore,"

All I wanted was to live a normal, simple life. I just wanted to take over my pack, meet my fated mate and start a family. I knew that having this power would come with a lot of pressure. I could kiss that dream future of mine goodbye. I never asked to inherit these powers. I was going to walk a lonely, bloody road from now on, I could tell. Alpha Christian would probably unload his burdens onto me, hoping that I could fulfill his legacy by defeating a great unknown evil.

"At first, your powers are going to be hard to control," Alpha Christian explained. "It takes time for your powers to fully develop. Once you reach your full potential, the remaining strands of your hair will finally turn silver,"

"Have you found your mate?" he queried. I shook my head in response.

"You have to find your mate soon. They'll help enhance your powers with a claiming bite," Alpha Christian stated. He turned to my father.

"Sir, your son needs to go through training in order to control his powers. I know you might not trust me right now... But please..." he said.

"I approve," Dad replied. I glanced at him, eyes as wide as saucers. "Of course, I'll be watching over the two of you during training,"

"Very well, then," Alpha Christian concluded and stood up from his seat. "Joshua, meet me at the forest clearing every morning at nine o'clock for training," he rumbled. He shook my father's hand and gave me a hug. We took him back to the entrance of the house. He shifted into his wolf form, yipping loudly. And with that, he bolted into the forest, leaving Dad and I stunned.

Dad and I discussed other pack matters before we went back home.

In my room, I laid on my bed, exhausted from the day's events. I took the pendant, caressing my thumb against the intricate lines representing the element of wind. Since I had to keep it safe, I took a random necklace chain lying around. I put the pendant around my neck. I went to bed early, knowing that training with Alpha Christian would start tomorrow.

In the morning, as I stared into the mirror, I realized that my hair had silver highlights.

After my refreshing shower, I went downstairs to the kitchen and saw Jess and my parents having breakfast. By the look on Jess's face, I knew my parents were telling her the truth about our lineage.

I was going to interrupt their conversation. But Jess noticed me in the corner of her eyes. She growled, taking her backpack before leaving the house.

"Why is she so moody this morning?" I asked.

"We told her about you, and " Mom replied, as she took Jess's plate to sink and started washing it.

"I see," I mumbled. "Well, I'm going to find Alpha Christian now. I'll be back before dinner" I said. On the way to the forest clearing, my mind was racing with unanswered questions. I sighed. I needed to focus on training right now
