"HEY!"
I ran, I rounded a corner, I sprinted down the corridor. I could hear voices behind me. Yes, they had definitely found out about it. I was starting to get exhausted. The package was light but more fragile than glass, it was hard to keep it protected while running.
"COME BACK!"
The voices echoed through the corridor. They had to find out about the package, of course, they couldn't just leave it alone?
I stopped. I was in the "main quarters", as we called it. It was a massive shaft that went straight through the entire spacecraft. A cold wind stormed through it, I felt small and afraid, but I couldn't give up now.
"Sorry."
I whispered to the package. I took a few steps backward, then I leaped over the shaft and just about landed on the edge of it. If I fell, I was done for. I forced my body forwards. I was safe for now, the package was safe too.
I kept moving. The voices from earlier had become weaker. Suddenly, I was stopped by two guards. They were both taller than me, and definitely stronger. I was scared, but I was careful not to show it. I had to find an opening, but where? It felt like my heart was about to jump out of my chest, was this the end for me? There are people who trust me, this package was a matter of life or death. This would not just be the end of me, but the end of the package too, the end of this entire mission. I had to find a way past them. The guard on my right took a deep breath, then he said:
"You know it's a health hazard, It must be killed immediately!"
I hesitated. I knew this was against the rules, I knew this was "wrong". Maybe I was about to eradicate the entire human species like they said. But this was my job, this was my only hope.
I had to stay sharp, find a way to get through. I sprang against the guards while they tried to hold me back, they grasped my arms. I was so close now, I could see it. The main sluice. Groups of people behind the guards just stayed seated looking at me, wondering why I wanted to destroy my own "Masterpiece", I didn't like that nickname though. I punched the guard to the left, he fell down on the floor, bleeding with his hands over his mouth. I tackled the other guard and plowed through the crowd of scientists. They shouted:
"NO!"
And
"DON'T DO IT!"
But I had arrived at the main sluice. I locked the door behind me, I heard screams and cries for me to stop coming from the other side of the door. It was no use now, so why did they bother? There were only me and my five companions now.
"Did you hack the database?"
I asked.
"Yes, all clear."
Hollon answered.
"Open the sluice and the package."
We put on oxygen masks and attached ourselves to the wall. I pulled the lever to open the sluice. There's outer space. I opened the package, the space-butterfly flew out. It was not harmful to health, it was free. It was beautiful.
