The desert wind whipped Scorpion's ears back as he raced across the hot desert sand, a stark contrast to the cool night wind. A single full moon glinted above his head, like a dragon's eye staring him down from the void of space above him. Grains of sand flew into his eyes and dug into his feet as he carelessly raced across the sand. In this point at time, he wouldn't care if he broke his spine or if his eye was gouged out. He had to make it.
Word on the street claimed that there was a Night-Sand hybrid hidden out in the desert. Another rumor claimed that the father of the egg was Queen Thorn's cousin. Images flashed behind Scorpion's eyes of his now queen. Images of how she had always been a leader, even when she was younger. His older cousin had always been such a role model for him. Heck, he could even be sitting at her side by now if not for his mate.
Faster than a bolt of lightning, the Sandwing flung his wings open to slow down his momentum, nearly tearing his wings out of their socket in the process. On his left was a sand dune like any other, besides the faint glow emitting from it. Scorpion dug his talons into the sand, flinging up piles of it until his talons hit something solid. Wood.
He felt around the wood until his talons hit something that felt like a doorknob. Pushing in on it, light poured onto the desert sand.
In the center of the room was a golden egg that was glowing a vibrant gold. Black scales coiled around the egg, dotted with silver. It was his mate, Lightslayer.
Back in the days of the Old Night Kingdom, she had been hired to 'distribute light' to the homes of dragons. Many people complained, saying 'We live on the volcano- we have enough coal,' but she would never listen. Many dragons avoided her, seeing as she had strange ideas. One of her many sayings was 'Snort sand - you'll lose a hand,' among many others. However, Scorpion didn't care about his wife's strange quirks.
"Is it almost ready?" he asked, his voice a hushed whisper. Slowly, he stepped closer to the egg, his egg.
"It's due to hatch tonight," his mate replied, glancing towards the ceiling of their 'home'. "Ypu know what they say - a full moon egg can break the hatchling's leg."
Scorpion nodded along with what she said. He didn't truly believe what she was saying, but he had a twinge of concern. Their last egg... it hadn't gone so well until the three full moons. Shaking his head, he cleared his mind of the thought. He had to focus on the present. Just as he was about to curl his warm wing around his daughter, a dragon burst through the sand.
The dragon was adorned with a single amber teardrop, and his eyes were hardened, yet somehow kind-hearted at the same time.
Scorpion flung out his wings to make himself seem larger, and his barbed tail rose up behind him. A fighting stance. He prepared to blow fire at the intruder, when they held up a talon.
"Whoah there bud, chill out," the SandWing said, his brown eyes glinting. "No need to get riled up there. I'm just here to take you, your mate, and your lovely egg there to Queen Thorn's palace. She requests her cousin's presence."
"No one will have the pleasure of my presence tonight," Scorpion hissed, his eyes glinting like steel.
"We'll go with you," a smooth, rich voice spoke up from behind him. Scorpion lowered his tail, coiling it, and lowered his wings to his sides to turn and stare at his mate, who was slowly rising from the ground whilst cradling their egg in her two front legs.
"We...will?" Scorpion asked, mildly dumbfounded and blinking cluelessely at her. All she did was nod, and the Sandwing across the room sighed with relief.
"Thank you for not making this hard," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. "You see, I was worried about having to call back up and wrestle you out of here and whatnot, but now-" he froze mid-sentence as Lightslayer shot him a deadly glare. Nervously he chuckled, slowly stepping out of the den, his amber earring twinkling in the moonlight. "Right this way, folks!"

His talons clattered the the courtyard of the royal palace. Scorpion glanced around, slightly on edge. Suddenly, his mate was there, tugging on his arm.
Her eyes were full of urgency, and she was moving towards the shade. "We can't let her be born in moonlight," Lightslayer said, frantically stumbling to the edge of the pavilion, where there was an overhang. She was only able to get the egg halfway out of the silver light before it started to crack, forcing Lightslayer to set the egg down.
With wonder in his eyes, Scorpion watched his daughter fight her way out of the egg. When she emerged, she was stunning.
She had golden talons, along with little golden horns and stars that were speckled under her wings. Her warm brown eyes smiled up at him, and Scorpion felt his heart melt. She had a small black barb, edged with gold, resting on her the top of her tail. She tilted her head curiously at her father and mother, and Scorpion couldn't help but smile.
"Hello, Goldtalon."
