-Len's POV-

I was typing at the computer faster than I have typed anything in my life. I have worked on this project for years, and it's finally getting a chance to see the wide open! The sprout of a cherry blossom tree was sitting by the table. My laptop was plugged into a larger device in front of me. A robot. She had blonde hair and looked quite similar to me. I hit the ENTER button in anticipation. The robot opened her eyes. "LOADING. 20%. 35%. 41%. 68%. 72%. 99%. LOADING COMPLETE." Her blue eyes opened. I smiled brightly. "I DID IT! I CREATED ARTIFICIAL LIFE!" I didn't get a response. "I'm Kagamine Len. Your name is Kagamine Rin! Welcome to the world." I held out my hand for her to shake, smiling giddily. No response. I opened my eyes in slight confusion. That's when I saw the blank slate look on her face. "... oh." Suddenly it felt lonelier than ever. Mom... Dad... did you know this would happen?

-SHORT TIMESKIP BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE FEELS-

We stood outside the cherry blossom tree. Eventually, it had to be planted outside. "Alright! Rin, this is your first singing lesson." I still haven't gotten her to properly smile. "As you wish, master. What are my orders?" I cringed internally. I don't want to be her master. I don't want her to be under my class in any way. I handed her a piece of sheet music. "Repeat after me, alright?" She nodded in response. Then I started to sing. It wasn't anything I was super proud of. I was actually super self-conscious. And then I heard HER sing. She was getting the notes and words, but... she isn't capturing the beauty of the song. "Um... lets try something else!" The next one burned with flaming intensity. Same problem. That was when I realized. Oh, of course! She is a robot. What she needs is a heart. "I don't understand." She said. "I sang the notes correctly. Why are you dissatisfied?" I looked back over to her. "I'm not dissatisfied. I just need to do some more work."

"Len, dear? We have to have a talk." Mom and Da- er, Meiko and Kaito, were standing in front of me. We were in front of a church. We weren't religious. Why were we in front of a church? Kaito spoke to me in a hushed voice. "We simply don't have enough resources the care for three people, Len. I'm so sorry." What? What does he mean? I'm confused. "Len, just wait here. Someone will get you." I watched as they both left. What they said made some sense. So why am I crying? They aren't even my real parents.

I felt something grab at my lab coat. "GAH?!" I turned around in surprise. It was Rin, who came to ask me a question. Her eyes... they are reflective. Almost like glass. No emotions. I don't want that for you. She asked me a question. The same question she would ask years later. When I knew my time was almost up. When I knew I had to leave her. I only smiled at her, and went to the cherry blossom tree to rest at last, but her eyes held the same question. "Master... why are you crying?"

-Rin's POV-

My name is Kagamine Rin. My designated age is 14, but I was brought to life 100 years ago. I state facts when I am bored. I am always bored. I used to sing with Master, but Master disappeared. What happened to him? I do not know. The world has color. I can not see color. I can determine color by the shades of gray I see. I don't know if I have color. I am different. There was more in store for me. I don't know what it was. I often walk outside to the cherry blossom tree. Cherry blossoms are pink, but leaves are not. Leaves are green. I am walking to that tree now. Master seemed so happy. Except when he wasn't. But he was mostly happy. Why did Master work so hard? Where did he go? Why did he spend so much time on my future? I do not know. The computer behind me turns on. It is..... what on earth? Is that color? The screen has words in white. "FILE CREATED. PLEASE CONNECT 02 TO THE COMPUTER AND PRESS ENTER." ... huh. Did Master go into the computer? Did Master defy physics? I walked into the laboratory. I connected myself to the cords and hit ENTER. Programming flooded through my body. Lots of it. I was embedding the numbers into- WARNING. WARNING. 02 CODING UNSTABLE. COMMENCING SHUTDOWN.
