A Witcher is someone who goes through vigorous training from a young age, goes through something calls the Trail of The Grasses which are mutagens to enhance their scenes. Their appearance also changes from their usual hair and eye colour, to grey/silver hair and cat like eyes. They are humans with super human powers. It may seem fun, but from experience, it isnt. I was no longer the young man I used to be. I was a monster slayer/hunter. I was to be hired to kill monsters and save the innocent for money. That was my new profession.

Why am I telling you this? Because I became something I didnt want to be. It wasnt my choice, but it was the only way. The only way to stop me from dying a slow, painful death. I wasnt ready to die. I had a whole life ahead of me. I had a home, friends, and I was to be married. I was married to a fair maiden by the name of Juliet. Many had wanted her hand in marriage but failed to woo her. I, on the other hand, was different. I had known Juliet from a very young age. My parents knew her parents very well, as they were all farmers and traders. We used to play in the wheat fields and by the river. But we were split when we were teenagers, because of the war. Juliets father became a military man and her younger brother and sister were born. They needed to move away to a safer place.

Then, about 10 years ago, I found her. She was still trading in the market, but this time with her siblings. I didnt expect her to recognise me but she did. She said that anyone with my eyes would be instantly recognisable. I had blue eyes. We were always together then, like we used to be. She told me that she took over from her mother after she was bed ridden a few years ago. I was happy to know that her mother was still around. But that couldnt be said about her father. She told me that he died on the field, in action. He was in the force for 10 years.

Juliet and me became closer than we have ever been. We went everywhere together and did everything we ever wanted to do when we were young. I mean, we are still young, but no longer teenagers. I grew to love her company and, even more, her. I couldnt stop thinking about our future and no other girls appealed to me. No one but her. I wanted to take her away from the place she currently was living. Her, her siblings and her mother. But her mother was far too ill to move anywhere. So, I never told her of my plans, wanting to take care of Juliets needs and wants before mine. Juliet became my weakness and one person I would bend the knee for in any situation.

Our lives went on without me telling her I loved her. I heard that her mother had passed on during one cold night and I didnt hear from Juliet for another 3 months while she grieved. In that time, I had to become ill. I was coming down with a fever and was told to stay inside by the doctor. I wanted to see Juliet though, even though I grew so ill I couldnt move a muscle in my body without immense pain. I made the journey to her house but only got so far and collapsed from the pain and exhaustion. I didnt know anything else after that.

I woke up in a ruined castle type place. I was on table, connected to wires. I wasnt in any more pain, but I was confused. Where was I?

An old man walked into the room and sat down next to me. He introduced himself as Vesimer. He was a Witcher of Kear Morhen in the Blue Mountains. He told me about what happened to me before I got here and after. I hardly understood any of what he spoke about with the medical terms, but I am sure it meant that I had been healed and was able to go home. But then he said that I had to go through some transformation of the body and senses. I asked him what he meant and showed me through a mirror in the armoury. I looked hideous! I had grey hair, cat like eyes that were glowing yellow and my body was like someones who had done weights.

After that day, I was put through training I never knew existed. I was also taught about the Witcher profession; what we do, how to do it, the contracts and life. I was understanding of the training but I had to ask: why was I turned into a Witcher? They told me that only a hand full of boys were chosen. Vesimer then told me that I was on the brink of death and that I was going to die. It wasnt his choice that I was put through the transformation, but the other two Witchers that also lived at Kear Morhen. They found me on the road side and decided to take me. I was lucky to be alive.

Now, I am a Witcher and on the Path. I had no other life now, this was it. It was all I knew. But I hadnt forgotten Juliet. And that was my next mission; to find her and tell her why I had disappeared.

This book will explain my experiences. I may be a Witcher, but I am still human. A freak, but still human.
