My name is Amelia Gilbert. I am the only child of my deceased mother and darling father. I can't really much recall how it was growing up with my mother because she died when I was still a toddler. Ever since that day, we have lived with my nanny, Talia, who has been like a mother to me. She watched me grow up from when I was a child. She fed me, took me to school, watched me take my first steps, and she was my confidant, I told her practically everything that I wasn't sure how to tell my dad.
My Dad was the kind of man that hid half of his life from me. Being the only child, I could say I got enough love from him and I knew no one could replace him. He was a multi billionaire, quite large numbers to really figure out, but we never lacked a thing. Yes, When I say anything I mean literally anything, even that which you are thinking about right now, we had. We had a big house, the kind in which most American kids dreamed of growing up. Secluded among trees on one of DC's most exclusive streets, it had turrets, gables, dormers, balconies, a screened-in front porch, a free-standing garage, a gazebo, a pool, formal gardens at the back and front.
This is the story of my life, basically all of it. Most of which I am proud of, some, well, not so sure about it.

"Come on Amelia, you've got to get this dress, please, just look how pretty it is." My best friend Meghan says as she admires the dress in front of her, a black plunging sleeveless dress, with an accent cutout on the thigh, and a cutout some parts of the body con. It was a floor length dress which was my type but showed too much of my body. She had already picked matching shoes to go with it, laced, black heels.
"Yeah, sure, why not, let me go try it out Meg." I tried on the dress, which was absolutely perfect, except that I wasn't sure of how my dad would react to it.
"I love it Meg, but I swear Dad's going to kill us, even before we get to see the party." I say, as if dad was actually there with me.
"It brings out your curves Amelia, just get it don't turn this down please, please, please!!" Meg says.
"Okay fine, let's go pay for it, we have so much to do in just six hours." I say, wishing that time was on our sides to check out the whole store for a better dress, but this would surely kill it.
We had agreed with my dad and Meg that the party would be better at night. Honestly, I agreed because I enjoyed the night breeze on my face, and the shining stars that made it look so magical. I was really looking forward to it, especially because dad had said he would try doing the decoration this time. My nanny always did it, but he said this was special. We left the mall with loaded bags and went to my car. We drove off to the next stop, where Meg was to go pick up the cake. She took charge of it, but didn't let me look at it.
"It's a surprise Amelia, don't spoil it." She said, giving me the look of I swear I will kill you if you do.
We arrived home, and headed straight for my room, the house was too packed, with people moving in and out making this day the best for me. Meg denied me the opportunity to go look out, at how things were going so far. I wanted the surprise but I just wasn't sure if I could hold the anxiety any more.
I went to the bathroom and took a warm shower, making me feel as fresh as daisies.
"Hurry up, we have a lot to do." Meg calls out from my room.
I got out of my room and found Meg unpacking everything that we had brought. They looked so pretty as they lay there on my bed. I dried my hair with my hair and tied it into a knot. I went to the dressing room, with my new dress, and put it on. It really looked nice, better than how it was when I saw it at the mall. Meg decided to do all my makeup and hair. I liked looking natural, no makeup, except my lip gloss that I never let out of my sight, but what she did, made me love my unused makeup kit. It was just perfect.
I slid into my black heels and went over to my full length mirror. It was just perfect. I thanked Meg for the wonderful work she did, as she also dressed herself up for the day. We went downstairs looking all beautiful, with our heads held high, no one could spoil this day for me.
"You look really pretty, doll, I love the dress." My dad said as we came down the stairs. I gave him a tight hug and thanked him for everything.
"I actually thought you would scold me for it." I said feeling a bit nervous about how he would respond.
"Of course not dear, you look pretty, and if that's the dress that impressed you, I can't really object."
"Actually, dad, it was Meg's style."
"Then your friend surely has taste." He said and we all burst out in laughter.
We were led to the back garden by my nanny, and honestly, I was really impressed with my dad's work. Knowing him to be a sucker of parties, this time he did it well, actually sot of overdid it.
"Happy Birthday, Amelia!!!" All my high school friends shouted. I was as happy as a sand boy, my heart made somersaults in the air, as it filled with great joy.
Our moment of greetings and hugs was broken by my phone ringing. I knew I shouldn't have carried it, but this number had called more than ten times. I went over to the front, into the garage to get away from the loud music, so that I could hear the speaker well.
"Hello Amelia, this is your mom, I have been trying to reach you for a long time now, happy birthday sweetie." The speaker said.
This left me confused, I knew my mom was dead, but the voice was too familiar. I burst out in tears as I remembered when we laid my mom to rest.
"Don't cry dear, I will explain to you everything soon." I realized I hadn't hang up, so I did it as fast as I could. I held back more tears from coming knowing I would destroy the makeup that Meg had worked hard on.
Suddenly, three buff men walked towards where I was.
"Welcome guys, the party is on the other side." I said trying to put a smile on it.
"Oh, no, we are not here for the party, but for you." That statement shocked me and made my heart skip a beat. Before I knew it, they drugged me, making me fall into a deep sleep. Images were becoming blurry, and I knew my day had just turned from sweet to sour.
