The story starts off with the king, his wife, and his son all sitting on their thrones watching boredly as act after act, performer after performer, come in and try to entertain the majesties.
The prince let out a long, loud sigh as he slumped against his throne resting his head in his hand. His father groaned, pinched the base of his long pale nose as he waved off the fool who was nervously telling jokes.
"Oh I thought he was quite funny Cedric, didn't you?" The queen asked in a voice of golden wind chimes. The king grumbled under his breath and looked up to see his wife giving him 'the look'.
"Oh yes, yes, certainly my dear, what about you my son?" he quickly said, looking over to his boy. The prince rolled his head over to face his two parents, he opened his mouth to speak but only let out a puff of air, blowing the few fallen strands of light brown hair away from his face.
"My boy, why do you look so glum? Is this not what you wanted?" The mother asked in a gentle tone.
"Yes, is this not what you wanted?" The father added in a rather harsh manor, "Nothing! Nothing I say! Is nothing good enough for you, yes?!"
The prince looked up from his lap once more and sighed, slowly getting up out of his seat, "I shall be going to bed now, mother and father" he nodded to the both of them, "Goodnight and sweet dreams" he add on after kissing the top of his mother's head and giving his father a hard look, then walked off with his velvet red cape flowing behind him.
"Nothing I tell you" King Cedric grumbled.
"Oh hush and call in the next one" Queen Ambella replied.
It was only seven in the afternoon by the time the prince was getting ready for bed. Though he didn't plan on sleeping a wink. Lately he's been staying up, watching the festival lights from his tower. Fireworks of many colors filled the sky. Such gorgeous greens and blues. Purples and reds. Any color you name might have been used, even ones the prince had never seen before.
He craved the excitement the party held. It got so boring up here in the kingdom and the buildings of the village surrounding the outside of it was no fun either. It was boring on this side of the town. Nothing went on. Sure the kingdom held lots of nice flowers, plants, and animals. The people were just as kind to him too, but the colors here seemed so faded and gloomy. Compared to the side of the town where the festival was held, nothing compared to those colors.
King Cedric, his father, had warned him never to go near there though. Never to go into that side of the town for there were many thieves there. Gypsies and outcasts, many filthy peasants as he would call them. There were a few Gypsies here too on this side, but it was very rare to find one, for the king's guards had captured most who dared to cross this side.
These 'freaks' would be looked at as deformed abominations, devil children, witches, and so much more. They are not wanted, they will never be wanted. The king would genocide those kind if he wanted.
Those thoughts made the prince sick to his stomach. They weren't bad people, they were just broken. They needed a chance but no one would give it to them. No one would give the prince a chance either.
So badly did he want to be a normal person for once. To walk amongst these towns people without being treated with fake smiles, or with hate only because of who he was looked at to be. Nobody liked his father and that was for sure. He was nothing like his father though! Couldn't they see?
The prince let out a frustrated yell, throwing books off the shelf he was looking on.
"Are you alright your heinous?" A servant asked as she peeked her head through the doorway.
