Sleepless Night: unedited
"Daring we must leave now" my mum says in a stern voice, rushing into my room. I look up at her confused.
"Why momma?" I ask my tiny voice replies.
"Because love, something bad is going to happen. Bad wolves are on their way to try and capture you." She says while packing some of my things.
She slings the bag over her shoulder and picks me up and puts me on her hip, rushing out the door and into the garage.
Papa is already in the driver's seat with the car ready to go with his jaw clenched tightly. He looks scary but I known he's gentle and he would do anything to protect me and mum.
My mum buckles me into my car seat swiftly, closes the door and then hops in the front passenger seat of our SUV. Papa revs the engine and we are quickly out of the drive way and racing down the road towards civilization.
My papa clutches the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles as white as snow. My mum tires to sooth him, and it works a bit before he tenses up again and accelerates the car even more through the fast falling snow.
"Momma, where are we going?" I ask timidly.
"Some place safe." Papa growls out. Momma sighs heavily at his tone of voice.
"Papa, why are you angry?" I ask, afraid he is upset with me.
As if he reads my mind, "I'm not angry with you darling, my wolf is just being protective right now, he doesn't want anything bad happen to you. Being an Alpha, he wants you away from any and all danger." He explains, he voice becoming softer.
"I'll never be in danger papa, not when you're here." I said positively.
Momma just chuckles, while we continue to speed down the road. I drift off to sleep and then wake up when the car swerves and a powerful growl leaves papa's mouth.
"Mommaaaaa what's going on?" I begin to sniffle.
"It's okay honey, just close your eyes, everything's gonna be alright. Don't worry." She says to sooth me. I nod, bring my blanket closer to me.
We continue to race against the clock. There's a howl outside, and my eyes fly open. I first think it's my pack, but the howl is foreign. My pup instincts kick in and I'm on high alert. Papa continues to abuse the accelerator as the howls get closer.
"Elena, we must shift, they already know where we are so tracking doesn't matter now. We have to get to civilization, or it's too late." Papa says to mummy. She nods; we pull over and get out.
"Brit I want you to shift." Momma says. I was just as shocked as well as the little wolf inside me was.
"Momma I don't know how and you told me I won't until I'm bigger." I say a bit frightened. My parents both looked at each other before singling to each other.
"Shift!" They both command me and the wolf spirit inside of me with the tones of true Alphas. I drop to the snow covered ground with tears coming down my face as my bones began to rearrange themselves. The pain stops and I look up at my parents they are in their wolf forms as well but they are huge compared to me. I am still a pup.
-'Darling I need you to crawl into my pocket. We have to make the rest of the trip in wolf form."- She instructs using the wolf link.
Papa stands guard as Momma lies down on her side showing her belly. I nod my wolf head and stand up slowly. Wobbling over to her under belly on my new legs; I wiggle in the warm pocket so that my head faces the opening, I peek my head out to look around. She then stands up, grabs in my bag in her mouth and we head towards the direction of civilization once again with papa striding right next to her at an amazing speed.
The howls get closer, I feel panic rise up in my mum as papa whines a bit as the temperature continues to drop. My furry face seems to get cold so I curl myself all the way inside mums pocket feeling the warmth and her scent wrap around me like protective cocoon. Slowly but surly we being to come to a stop,
-'Momma why have to stopped?'- I asked.
-'It's time to get out dear.-' she says softly with sadness laced through her voice.
I get out; momma and papa shift back. I do the same with our clothes still intact. There are lights everywhere and we stand at the very edge of the forest.
"What's going on?" I ask again looking up at papa's face that was lined with hurt.
"Take this to remember who you really are and where you come from my little wolf; never let this fall into the wrong hands sweetie." Momma says. She bends down to my level as she unlatches the locket from around her neck and puts it around mine. She then grabs my backpack and slips it around my shoulders. Both papa and momma hug me tightly.
"Never tell the humans who you really are, you can not let them know, ever. Just remember when you find your mate, never stop fighting for him. And if he hurts you, I will haunt his very soul." Papa says sternly before letting a heart warming smile spread across his face. Tears began to fall down their faces. I wipe them away with my tiny hand, letting my own slip.
"I love you." I say simply.
"We love you more than anything, don't forget that." They both said with sad smiles.
My parents both stand up. Combining their hands they say words in a language I don't understand. They start to glow gold, focusing that gold towards me and letting it surround me before melting on me. I felt a rush of something before it disappears.
"Remember darling, be strong, kind, brave and thoughtful. With great power comes great responsibility." Momma says. They both kiss me on the forehead one last time before another howl screeches through the cold bitter night.
"You see that building over there?" Papa says. I nod my head yes.
"I want you to run to that building Brit, run and don't stop until you reach it." Papa says still pointing at certain building. I nod. They turn towards the dark woods and disappear.
"Momma! Papa! Come back! I'm afraid!" I scream. I start to run after them before a fierce growl is heard to my left.
I freeze and turn towards the unfriendly wolf. I then remember what papa told me. I ran back out of the woods and towards the building papa pointed out earlier but with the mangled wolf right behind me until my feet hit the pavement.
PRESENT DAY...
I scream myself awake. Sweat coating me as tears run down my face from the horrible but true nightmare. I grab for the glass of water on my bed side table and drink the remainder of its contents. Shakily I get out of bed and head for the bathroom that is attached to my bedroom. I open the door and flick the light switch on. Walking over to the sink, I turn on the faucet letting the water run hot.
Once it is to the desire temperature, I take a hand full and splash it onto my face a couple times. Blindly reaching for the hand towel near by, I dry my face then look at my reflection in the mirror. I observe that the dark circles under my eyes are visible and concluding in my head that I look like a complete and utter bloody mess. With a deep sign I turn off the bathroom light and trudge my ass back to bed, knowing the dreams will continue and I won't be able to sleep.
