It turned out that Abby happened to be in a few classes with me, which was nice since that meant I knew at least one person. Also, I didn't have any other mishaps. This day was actually going really well; A little pep to my step and a small smile lighting up my face as I walked into the cafeteria with Abby.

As we got our lunch, noticed a guy waving from across the room at us. I nudged Abby slightly, "Hey, I think someone's trying to get your attention"

She turned and looked, "Oh that's my friend. I'll introduce you to him" she grabbed a hold of my hand and pulled me along, an excited smile dancing across her face. It seemed like she had an endless supply of zeal.

I weaved with her through the people walking around, and all I saw was a blur of unfamiliar faces surrounding me. For a moment I wondered how many of these people I'd come to know in the future. I was the new kid now, the strange alien oddity that everyone had to get a peek at. I knew it would be awhile before I was known as anything other then "Just that girl".

I was so consumed in my thoughts I didn't even realize Abby was talking to me.

"Willow? I said this is Cain" Abby said, shaking me from my contemplation.

Heat creeping into my face from embarrassment, "Sorry, I was thinking" I smiled, putting my tray down and sitting beside Abby. "It's fine, it's nice to meet you. I hope Abby hasn't made your ears bleed with her talking. She gets carried away at times" giving her a small grin.

"You're so impossible! You act like I talk everyone to death or something!"

"How often does the teachers have to tell you to shut it Abbs?"

"...that doesn't mean anything. Mrs. Henderson had to tell you to close your big mouth when you decided to try and give a ten minute lecture about the roman empire!"

"Well she asked me a question, so I was going to give her a proper answer!"

I watch the two of them bicker back and forth, taking a bite of my sandwich to hide my smile. It was obvious they were like brother and sister. I did also take the time though to really get a good look at Cain.

He was an interesting looking fellow, not in a bad way though. Thick black hair smoothed back with a streak of electric blue going through and athletically toned, but his most impressive feature, in my opinion at least was his eyes.

They were a warm, tawny brown color. It just held a certain depth, as if there was more under his exterior then one could see.

I realized I had started to zone out again and looked between the two of them but they were absorbed in their conversation. Which was lucky for me since I didn't want to be seen as the "Weird chic who spaces out"

Something Abby said caught my attention though and I actually started listening to what they were saying,

"Has your Dad found out anything else about those weird things in the forest?" She asked quietly, almost as if she was trying to keep if secret. Cain shook his head though, his forehead wrinkling as he frowned thoughtfully, "No. The police couldn't find any other evidence or trails outside of what was at the scene. Not even the dogs could trace a smell...they're really clueless on what's going on."

I leaned in a little, speaking quietly since this seemed like something nobody else was supposed to know about. "Police? Forest? What's going on? I live on the edge of the forest on the far corner of town" From the look that passed between them for a split second, I had a feeling whatever had occurred happened close to my house. "Sorry, I should have said something. My dad is the chief of police. There's an investigation going on about something they found in the forest, not many people know about it though. They're kind of trying to keep it under wraps so everyone in town doesn't get worried" Cain murmured, looking around to make sure nobody had heard him.
