I am Silens Nox
The words rang through my head like a bell, fear gripping me like an anaconda in it's deadly coils, squeezing the breath right from my lungs.
"Why are you here?" I tried to keep my voice firm, but I found it quivered to my dismay, "You were outside my house, weren't you?"He stepped closer, his tall figure seeming to loom over me imposingly. Everything about him radiated strength and power in a way that both amazed and frightened me. "I'm here for you, Guardian. The last has died, so it is time for his heir to step forward" He said simply, as if I should have understood what it was he was talking about.
My eyes narrowed slightly in confusion. Was this guy insane? Why did he call me Guardian? The only person who died was my grandfather. No matter how many times I ran his words through my mind I couldn't get anything logical out of it.
"I think you have the wrong person, I don't know what you're talking about" I inched back slowly, trying to get around him, and for a moment it seemed like he wasn't going to try and stop me, in fact, he seemed confused now himself, "You were not informed of your duties? It was the responsibility of your predecessor..." He crossed his arms over his chest as he thought, and I couldn't help but think of how easy it would be for him to just squash me like some minuscule insect.
Run, run now! My mind screamed at me, and thankfully enough I found my legs could move, because there was no way in hell I was going to say around and wait for this rambling lunatic to decided I looked like a lovely victim.
Once again my feet were flying across the ground, the only light to see by was what shone through the limbs of the trees surrounding myself. I didn't hear any footsteps behind me and for a moment thought that perhaps he had decided to let me go free. I'm not sure how I hadn't noticed before that the woods around me were eerily silent, except for the sound of my heavy breathing and the stead sound of my heartbeat pulsing quickly in my ears.
I slowed my pace slightly, just enough for me to turn around and try to see any movement in the half-light.Nothing moved nor stirred. Infact it seemed as if everything was too afraid to move, hiding from some unseen force. Once more chills rolled down my spine like the touch of icy fingers, sending me once again into a desperate run as if I was being chased by the hounds of Hell themself. Branches and twings lashing like knives as I carelessly barreled my way through the brush, not even bothering to find a clearer path to follow.
I could see the field behind my house a short distance away through the trees and my heart leapt with relief.
I was so close to finding my escape, only if I could get into the confines of my home. I'd never run so fast in my life. I wasn't exactly a track star though, in fact I was horrendous at running, but apparently something about racing away from danger made one faster though.I could see the edge of the forest, only a few more steps and I would be there. The blood rushed in my ears like a tribal drum and spine tingling chills ran through me down to my core. Each crunching step a sound of freedom but also terrifying me that I would be heard.
Finally I took the last step out of the woods at breakneck speed, almost wanting to cheer with joy as the warm summer breeze brushed across my face and the oppressing gloom of the dark woods was left behind me. I was so close, so painfully close to sanctuary.
Until I felt the thick arms wrap themselves around my body.My scream was smothered as a firm hand covered my mouth. Adrenaline pumped through my veins as I struggled and kicked, heels digging into the soft dirt as he dragged me back into the darkness of the woods. His skin on his arms where they had reached out to grab me looked strange. As if the color had been drained from it and turned a deathly gray, I only noticed this briefly though as I fought, getting nowhere in my efforts.
Tears welled in my eyes as I felt myself being dragged in deeper.
This was it, my life was about to end at the hands of some strange viking looking madman. How long would it take to find out I was gone? Would anyone ever find my body or would I simply just rot deep in the woods with crows picking at my body?I let out a few more desperate wails and kicks, praying that somehow I'd be freed. He came to a halt and brought his mouth to my ear, I could feel the tickle of his hair against my neck and the feel of his breath crawl against my skin as he started to speak, "Stop fighting me. You're not going to get away, vecors mulier..." his deep voice firmly said, a strange lit to the end of his words from the accent I couldn't identify. This made me panic even more though, and I began thrashing even harder then before as I tried to slip from his grasp. His arms tightened around me harder until I had to gasp for air as the pressure forced the air from my lungs, thoroughly pinned and completely unable to move.
"Vecors mulier" he hissed angrily in my ear once more, and from the inflection in his voice I had a feeling that whatever he was saying was an insult, "I'm not going to-" he was cut off though as a flash of light suddenly illuminated the woods. It was like a star had suddenly appeared, the white light so blinding everything was lost in the spots that floated in my vision.
My captor released me with a pained yell and I fell to the ground, disoriented and confused as I tried to see around myself to no avail. I felt a small, gentle hand touch my forehead and flinched away, "Shh, sleep now." I heard female voice softly croon, and an overwhelming sense of exhaustion swept over me and the next thing I knew I slipped into darkness.
