Two lines.

Ruby stared at the pregnancy test. Her breath caught, she couldn't breath. A responsibility was just thrown at her like bricks. She felt the world crumble at her feet. She couldn't feel the impact of her falling to the floor. Knees weak, no power.

No father...

Her fiance kicked her out, confessed that he was having an affair. 'Get out' he said. 'This is your fault, it was bound to happen sooner'. Trying to hold back her tears, she stood up. Her stomach making turns and twists.

Bang!

Bang!

"Hey hurry up there!" Ruby walked to the door, opening it. She stumbled as if someone punched her. Mumbling her apologies. Keeping her head down, she walked to the exit of the coffee shop. Hot liquid splashed on Ruby. The tears she kept at Bay burst out. This was the last straw, she couldn't take it anymore! Her wails bounced off the walls. 'How can life be so cruel!' She thought. 'I've never done anything to anyone... I have no parents! No house! Nobody!' She wasn't even thinking straight as she grabbed the closest body, digging her face into it. Her fists grabbed onto the jacket with force. Ruby was shaking with anger.

Feeling two arms encase her with warmth only made her wailing louder. It reminded her of her fiancee. Her backstabbing, sack of shit, bastard fiancee.

Finally, the cries of anger calmed down. Ruby looked up. Her eyes blinking out her tears, vision clearing up. A man with wavy, long, hair, and a slight stubble in his chin looked down at her. "You okay?" He asked. Ruby immediately let go, crying to a  stranger? How pathetic. "I'm fine. Thank you." A hand grabbed her shoulder as she tried to take her exit. The man cleared his throat. "I know it isn't my place but... Please sit down with me. With an outburst like that I can't stand you leaving like that."

Free coffee? Why not? Her life is going downhill anyways. She nodded. Both of them walked to a booth and sat down. The man studied Ruby's appearance. Her hair was untidy, as if she hadn't brushed it in a couple of weeks. The green jacket she wore was ripped on the right side, it was barely noticeable but if close enough, you could spot it.

'She's obviously been through hell and back.' The man known as Dan Domenech raised his hand calling up a waiter. Unfortunately it was a newbie, you could tell by her erratic actions and the nervousness radiating from her. She stumbled while walking towards them and clumsily composed herself once she reached them. "What can I get you today...?" Clearing his throat Dan glanced at Ruby waiting for her response. Both their eyes met. Ruby being the shy girl she is averted her gaze the waiter. "U-Um... Can I just get some tea, please?" "Sure, and for you sir?" "A coffee is fine." Quickly writing the order down as to not forget, the waiter closes her notepad. "I'll be with your order momentarily."

The exact moment she leaves, an awkward silence is easily given birth. Dan takes his time closely inspecting Ruby. She had brown silky hair that barely kissed her shoulders. Her eyes were closely related to the color emerald, but the shine was dull. 'Maybe due to whatever was happening to her' Dan thought. His thought came to a halt as Ruby spoke up. Her voice strained and croaky by all the crying. "I'm sorry that you had to see my outburst..." "No no no, Don't. I can sense you've been through a lot." The green eyed girl forces a laugh, "You don't even know half of it." Before Ruby could react, she felt a comforting warmth on her outstretched hand that was on the table. Her head snapped toward Dan. Her breath was caught as she saw Dan smile at her warmly. "I'm here to listen."
