After the crash

Jean comes sprinting through the door. The thick glass separating us from the operation going on barley catching his fall. He stares at the motionless body of his future husband. Tears welling in his eyes at the sight. I place my hand on his shoulder and squeeze.

"What the hell happened?!" Jean screams at me grabbing my collar pinning me against the wall. I grab his wrists and glare into his tear filled eyes. I push him off of me and Mikasa leads him to a nearby chair. He holds his head in his arms and cries. Mikasa rubs his back whispering sweet nothings into his ear. After he calms I speak.

"There is shrapnel from the car crash stuck in his chest. It was causing internal bleeding. They are removing all the pieces now. He's going to be alright. I understand what you are going through. You can get through this." I say softly as I kneel in front of him and place both my hands on his shoulders.

"You don't know shit about what I'm going through." Jean screams at me, pushing me off balance and causing me to lay on my back. I think about Levi in that moment. I feel so wrong after doing what I didn't to Heicho. My hand reaches up to the chain around my neck. I grasp the silver ring hanging from it. Tears begin to spill from my eyes as the memories come flooding back.

"What do you mean you don't like Petra anymore?" Levi asked slightly annoyed with my childish behavior. I crossed my arms over my chest and glared at him.

"It's not fair! You spend all your time with her. I think you are taking this to far! I've seen the ring in your room. You're going to ask her to marry you aren't you? I knew you didn't love me, not really!" I shouted at him. He stood up from the couch and walked over to me. I continued to glare into his eyes as he stopped in front of me. Without my noticing he had raised his hand and slapped me. I stumbled backwards, my fingers grazing over the three open scratches across my cheek just under my left eye.

"Don't you ever say shit like that again you here me?" Levi said with fury in his voice.

"Why? Because you know it's the truth? You know that I've seen through your plan to manipulate my feelings! I don't know why I ever cared for you in the first place!" I screamed at him. My rage taking hold of me.

"Guys what's going on?" Petra's quiet voice had asked. Levi stormed past me and grabbed Petra's hand, dragging her with him.

"If that's how you truly feel then you'll never see me again." Levi spoke before leaving, slamming the door and getting in his car, leaving me alone in the huge house. Not a day later the police called. They said they found Petra by the river outside of town, she had said she went through a car crash with Levi.

"Petra are you alright?" I had screamed at her as I ran into her open arms.

"Yes. I wish I could say the same for Levi." She cried as I held her in my arms. Petra had pulled away from me and pulled a plastic bag from her pocket. In it was a small felt covered box and a letter.

"So, did you say yes to him?" I asked. Sadness laced with my voice as I held tears back.

"I told him I'd give it to you. They are for you and Levi also wanted you to know something." Petra spoke softly to avoid my adoptive father from hearing. She placed the bag in a pocket of my jacket. "Is last words to me were to tell you that he loves you." With her last words to me my tears began to fall down my face. Petra wrapped her cold and wet arms around my shoulders and held me close as I cried.

The next two weeks I locked myself in my room. Only every leaving for some sort of food. Mikasa would come to the door every so often with homework from school. A month after Levi's death the survey corps, a huge gang trying to take over the city, started to infiltrate the government. By now I stopped caring if they took over or not. Soon, Mikasa forced me out of my room and pushed me to go get a job with her fathers company.

"Do you remember how you tried to bully me out of my room?" I ask quietly from the ground. The ring Levi asked Petra to give me held tightly in my hand. I stare up at the pale white roof. Tears falling from my cold blue eyes. Jean looks up from his hands and stares at me. "I was so upset after Levi and I fought and he died that night. Sacrificing himself to save Petra." I spoke through tears.

"Eren, I-I'm so sorry." Jean says as his tears stop. I sit up and glare at him.

"I guess I don't know what you're going through. Knowing that the man you love is still alive and that he has a very high chance of surviving!" I scream, losing my nerve. I sat up and stare him dead in the eye. He mutters to himself and the doctor conducting the operation comes out to talk with us.

"Before you ask all your questions I would like to say that he is fine. He will live and needs lots of rest. The shrapnel in his chest has been removed safely and he is resting. I suggest you all go home and get a good nights rest." The doctor turns and leaves as well as Marco's parents. Mikasa stands from her chair and walks Jean out to his car. I stare at the now empty operating room.

"Ow! That hurts!" I screeched at the kind nurse. She glares at me in return.

"If you stopped moving it wouldn't hurt as much!" She almost shouted losing her nerve with me. I sat and tightened my hand around Jeans hand. I hissed at the stinging pain in my left cheek as the woman began to stitch closed the winds on my face.

"I wish you would tell me how you got those. I'll beat up the kid who dared hurt you!" Jean said trying to take my mind off of it. I gave him a look and he shut up. After the woman placed a price of gauze over the three stitches and left me to walk out hand in hand with Jean. Back in high school Jean had had a crush on me. I'm pretty sure he still did.

My fingers reach up and trace the three fine scars under my left eye. My last moments with Levi residing in those scars. I sigh and leave the hospital, walking back home to Armin's and I's apartment room. I look up at the beautiful twilight sky. I walk past the park that is only a block away from my home when I hear tears and sobs. I follow the sounds until I find the man that looks like Levi sitting on a bench, crying beside the fountain Levi had first declared his love for me.

"Hey!" I shout from my place on the path. The small man jumps out of his seat and turns. His tear filled eyes staring at me. I give him a week smile and he runs into my chest. His tears continue to fall down his perfectly sculpted cheeks.

"I'm sorry I ever yelled at you. I'm sorry I slapped you and left those scars on your face. I-I'm so-sorry I couldn't give you th-tha-that ring my-self." He spoke through tears and his words left me in pure shock. No one knows about what happened that night. No one know how I got the scars in my cheek. No one but Levi and I. Does that mean....? Could it really be?
