Ch 5 - Goodbyes
Draco's POV
As I watch Hermione walk away with the littlest weasel and Hagrid, I felt an unexpected wave of longing rush over me. As soon as the thought of somehow wanting to be close to Hermione entered my head I banished it, there was no way in hell that I would ever want to be with her. Although my views on things such as mud bloods and muggles had changed drastically, there was still no way I could ever be with a Gryfindor, least of all their know it all princess.
I jumped as my mother touched my arm, which startled me out of my thoughts. She gave me a questioning look, asking with her eyes "what was that." Having no answer for even myself I simply shook my head and announced.
"Come on mum we need to get to train station."
"Okay Draco," she said hesitantly still confused about our little encounter. In all honesty I was confused too.
We hurried out the door of the inn and into the small hut behind it. This was the less popular entrance to Diagon Ally, which was probably because it opened up into one of the less popular parts of the village. We walked through what I guess would be considered the slums of Diagon Ally, where trash littered the unkempt streets and people sold sketchy things out of small booths that looked as though they were barely standing. We rushed out of that street and into another road, but this one was filled with sunshine and well kept shops, with people milling about and yelling to each other. We walked a few streets over to Gringotts to pick up some money for me before school started.
Wherever we walked whispers and stares followed us, mothers pulled their children close, groups of friends fell silent, and men glared at us. Used to it by now we simply continued on our way, never stopping until we reached our destination.
Once we reached Gringotts we were taken to our family vault. My mother filled two bags with gallons, sickles, and knuts, one for me and one for her and my father.
After the neck breaking ride back to the sunlit lobby we glanced at the huge gold clock displayed on the wall. When my mother noticed that we only had a half an hour until the train left she panicked pushing me out the huge white doors. Telling me that she 'refused to make me late to my last first day.' I kept telling her to relax that we had plenty of time put she simply took my arm and with a *pop* we were at King's Cross.
I grabbed a trolley to put my heavy trunk onto. We walked through the barrier to platform 9 3/4 with 15 minutes until the train left. I took my trunk and loaded it onto the train before hugging my mother and kissing her on the cheek.
I faced train to find a compartment, preferably one that I could sit in alone without glares and whispers. But I only had took one step before my mothers hand clasped around my wrist. I turned back to her not expecting her tear filled eyes and tight hug. When she finally let go of me with tears in her eyes she said, "Draco, me and your father love you so much. I know you've noticed things at home haven't exactly been... ...happy, but its been difficult-"
"I know mum, it's alright-"
"It's not. We're going to work on it I promise. Try to have fun this year, I want you to make friends, to grow into a man who people know as someone other than Malfoy, Voldemort's loyal follower."
"Mum..."
"I love you so much Draco, and I'm so sorry." she said as the tears in her eyes overflowed.
I pull her into another tight hug, tears now stinging my eyes.
"Goodbye mum, I love you too," I whispered into her ear. I let go, wiped her tears away, and boarded the train.
Not noticing the brown haired girl a few feet away.

I am so sorry that I haven't updated in a while, as you've probably noticed by now I am not very good at sticking to an update schedule. That's just how I am right now. Between school, swimteam, and band I barely have any free time. Plus I am addicted to Netflix and have about a billion shows I'm watching right now. Anyway whenever I feel inspired (or the wifi goes out like this weekend) I write, which I think is what makes it fun for me. I hope you enjoy this chapter, I might upload another one in a couple hours but it depends if feel like writing. So as always my Dms are always open, or you can email me (email below).
