When we walked inside and everyone was spread out awkwardly around the house trying to force there face's to stop smiling. But Ever was smiling ear to ear and couldn't stop, when she did you could tell because it would just go right back into place wider then it was before.

"Y'all suck at this ya know, if ya can't fake it then don't spy on us like some sort of parents and nosy sister."

"But I am a sister, plus I'm nosy and we aren't blind here. We all know you too were crushing on each other and I'm happy, we all are."

"Yah yah ok I get it, you're a smooth talking intelligent young lady and I will probably never win a debate or fight against you so I need to stop trying."

"There you go."

There was a bang at the door, I peeked through the window and fear struck me with a stinging smack.

"Why George what's the matter? I bet you would be pailer then a ghost."

"Shhh! We all need to get away from here. Quickly and as silent as possible," I whispered.

All of them looked at me in question and the men banged at the door again, louder then the first time.

"Who's at the door?" Jack asked with a quiver in his voice as if he wasn't sure he wanted to know.

At first I looked at Ever for a moment, then at him and replied, "Men from our fathers work."

Ever started to hyperventilate and shake with panic all over her face. The door was banged on again, sounding like a huge drum. But this time they started yelling, and they were yelling for me.

"George Gray Hales! Come out here you mother fucking basterd... We know what you did to your sister and you'll hang for it even if the courts don't do it for us!"

What I did?! I hope that lying son of a bitch burns in the deepest parts of hell! I didn't do anything but protect her from him! Now I'm gonna pay for what he did.

Everything blocked out in a blur, I had started to cry from rage and anger and lack of knowing what to do. I sunk down to the floor, my hands on my head and fingers through my hair, to somewhat block people from seeing. But mostly to black ever from seeing. I have never allowed her to see me cry and I am ashamed at myself. I through one of my arms down, hand in a fist letting it walk the floor with a stinging pain.

"God damn it!"

Jack scooted over to me, all of us trying to stay out of sight.

"Listen to me, we all need to leave. Me, you, Ever-"

"Me and Mark will stay here. We can cover for you that way. It's to dangerous all of us leaving. Also me and Mark are older folk, the only thing we'd do is slow down. No argueing 'bout that Jack ya understand, now all of you run on."

Jack helped me up off the floor. I hugged Mark and then May.

"Don't go thinking this is a goodbye now George. You all will always have a family and a home right here ok? Now go," May whispered in my ear.

She was far stronger then me, I could hear the tears in her voice but she didn't cry. Jack picked up Ever how had dropped to the floor muffing her ears apparently before I fell to the floor as well. We all crept through the back door and around the shack.

"Where are we gonna go Jack, jump another train for them to find us again. I can just go up to them and make them believe I killed Ever cuz I couldn't have a big mouthed girl escaping and telling' local sharifs what I did and then they would hang me and you can live here with her and she would be ok."
