clay's pov
its been ten years. ten years since the love of my life took her own.
hannah baker.
she was the warm glow on a cold dark day. she was my ray of sunshine when my skies were grey.
the days with her were great, now, even ten years later, i can't even visit my hometown without having flashbacks of her.
the first chance i got i left. i took all my tests and graduated a whole year early from high school. i was able to admit to college early and ever since then i haven't gone back.
for the past nine years i've been living in new york city.
i know its a cliche but it was hannah's dream.
i went to school and studied psychology, and now i work as a high school therapist. ironically.
i love my job with everything i have. i get to help kids just like me when i was their age.
as i walk down a busy new york street to grab some lunch, my phone starts to ring. its my mom.
"hey mom whats up?" i ask excitedly.
"hi clay, or should i say, mr.jensen." she teased.
"clay is fine mom. anyways why'd you call? not to be rude or anything but you usually call on sundays."
"oh yeah. um look clay i wanted to tell you something. it's about bryce walkers upcoming trial." she said in a hushed tone.
i went quiet.
although hannah died ten years ago, the trial has been dragging on. bryce has really good lawyers, and every time new evidence arises, they somehow have a counter argument which pushes things further and further away from justice.
"clay? honey? are you still there?" my mom brought me back to reality.
"oh yeah sorry, what about it?" i asked shaking thoughts out of my head.
"well they think they finally might get bryce sentenced, but the thing is, they need you to speak on hannah's behalf." these words were nothing new, i've heard them a hundred times before.
"okay, just send over my usual statement." i rolled my eyes.
"actually, this time is different sweetie." it sounded like there was more to this.
"what is it mom?" i feared that i knew what she was going to say.
"they need you to actually be here. they want to know about that night at the party." there it was. she dropped the bomb.
i pinched the bridge of my nose in frustration. i knew i had to go, but i never wanted to have to go back home.
"fine, when do i need to be there?" i groaned.
"wednesday morning at nine." she trailed on nervously.
today was monday.
they need me all the way in california, wednesday morning.
"i know its short notice honey, but we need you. come on do it for hannah."
i internally fought myself for a moment or two.
"fine, i'll be there, on one condition."
"anything clay."
"we get bryce's ass put in jail." i demanded.
"you got it. thank you so much clay. i'll see you soon." and with that she hung up.
if bryce thinks he can get off the hook this time, he's got another thing coming, and that thing is clay jensen.
a/n- i'm back. yes i know its been a while, but i promise i'm here to stay. i've had the idea to write this for a long time and i really hope you guys like it. if you didn't figure it out already, this takes place ten years in the future. point if views are going to be switched amongst the characters. its going to take place around bryce's trial. let me know if you guys like it.
