The scenery outside the car window was breathtaking; Fresh produce being grown out in fields, lovely flowers dancing in the wind, and the bright, yellow sun shone its rays down on the green grass and it gladly welcomed its unprecedented visit. The whole week before, it was pouring pretty hard. And yeah, it lasted for days on end up until now. Y/N thought was nice to finally get some sunshine on her skin after waiting a whole week for it.
During that whole week, Y/N and her family were preparing to move... Such a tragedy, leaving her beautiful country-home in the wilderness for a modern house in the suburbs? She'd never thought she'd see the day... But, on the bright side, she was moving to an area where a few acquaintances of her family were already living, and this included the Goof family.
Now, it's been a good while since the last time she's heard from them, but boy, Uncle Goofy was a hoot! She loved him so much like another uncle she's never had! Though she's never met his son, she pondered on the thought that perhaps they were a lot alike... That was one of the only things she was looking forward to after leaving her childhood home so abruptly.
Sitting in the backseat of the dinky, red-colored car, she leaned her forehead against the glass of the window, staring out before she pulled away. She took ahold of the lever which she used to manually roll the window down, and her face was immediately met with the cold, barely even harsh winds bursting into the vehicle. Y/N returned the wind's favor with a toothy grin as she squeezed her eyes shut. This might be the last time she'd get to breathe fresh air like this for a good while. Though a few seconds into embracing the cold, her little brother, Finn, to the left of her whined,
"No, no! Stop! Too cold!" He flailed his arms at her, one holding a GameBoy tightly as he did so.
"What? Let me have this moment, sheesh! This is probably the last time I'll ever be able to inhale fresh air like this before we hit the city..." Y/N felt shivers down her spine as she mentioned it. The ever-growing pollution, the loud noise, everything seemed so unappealing.
"I don't care what you want, it's annoying!" Finn nearly snarled at his older sister, the grip on his GameBoy tightening even more as he curled up in the corner of his seat. "Mooom, tell Y/N to roll the window back up!"
"Ugh, just please be quiet, okay? I'll close the window," Y/N sighed, gripping the handle again before she rolled the window back up. She felt this warm sensation hit her red-tinted cheeks once the window was fully shut, it was somewhat pleasant, but also unsatisfying and odd.
"There, you happy now? You just sucked up what was left of home due to your bad habit of complaining about everything you don't like!"
Y/N slumped back into her seat, crossing her arms as a slight pout formed on her lips, though she almost immediately stopped as she averted her eyes towards the window again. She sighed quietly, her eyes focusing from the view outside to her own transparent reflection.
"Don't worry you two, we promise we'll take you both out here on vacation. We're already planning a trip back when summer comes after school ends for both of you," their mom spoke up, calling to the back of the car before returning to her magazine. Their dad also chimed in,
"Yeah! We'll have a nice barbeque with your grandparents, it'll be fun!" He chirped, still keeping his eyes on the road as he spoke.
"I guess that does sound pretty nice... Thanks, you guys," Y/N smiled a little, finally leaning upward from her slouching position in her seat.
It all seemed so hypothetical; One day, her parents just decided that living the country life was simply becoming too boring for them... Or at least it seemed that way. The reality of the situation was that her father's brother really needed some help after he recently had a certain health issue rise up, so he couldn't do much with his handyman job anymore. Y/N's dad volunteered to support him due to the incident, but that meant they had to make quite a hefty move.
The things people do for love, huh...? Well, either way, it was the beginning of a new life somewhere else. Y/N didn't exactly have high hopes for anything, especially considering how city-folk were— And she's never been to a real high school before, she's only ever learned at home, so that'd be an entirely new experience for her. Perhaps it was a good thing that she could take a dip in the average teenager's lifestyle for once, go partying, make friends, find dates, go to senior prom... But all that stuff seemed so unimportant to her, there were better things to do with her life rather than have fun all of the time.
Y/N could never admit it, but she was a bit of a stick in the mud; A party pooper, maybe, at least to the kids in this day and age. She just wasn't raised around those things, her idea of fun is going camping, wandering in the wilderness and finding bugs, or taking a refreshing swim in the lake. She was sure a lot of the teens in the cities only enjoyed partying at their houses and clubs, perhaps even participating in underage drinking and whatnot. She'd physically cringe just at the thought of it. Rough and rowdy wasn't exactly her style.
Y/N quietly exhaled through her nostrils, taking one hand to rest her chin on her palm. A small strand of hair flowed right in between her eyes, and feeling the itching sensation, her mouth formed into and 'o' shape before she blew it upward and back to where it originally was.
She could already feel her knees locking, she was sitting so long. They had another couple days to go before they reached their destination. Just the thought of it made her want to pitch and moan, though her train of thought was interrupted by the sudden feeling of dread pooling in her stomach. Oh yeah, she was worried about first impressions.
"What if no one likes me? What if I do something weird and everyone ignores me? Oh, it's no use.. I'm nothing like them, and that's enough to get me shunned," she thought to herself, feeling the urge to suddenly bite her nails. If she dwelled on it hard enough, sweat might've started making its way through her pores, but then she remembered;
"...It doesn't matter who you are and what you like, Y/N, it's their fault if they don't want to accept you. Who cares about what they think, anyway? Whatever happens, promise yourself you won't beat yourself up over what they say!"
It was almost immediate when she mentally spouted out some words of encouragement, to at least help herself calm down some, to push those anxious thoughts into the back-burners of her mind. Still, she couldn't help but ponder on the possibilities, though...
Y/N exhaled once more and rolled her neck, staring at the road outside the window to her right. The continuous streaks of yellow that were etched into the hard rubble of the road were moving at almost incomprehensible speeds, and even despite that, she felt as though it would take forever. She had his overwhelming urge to groan the more she thought about it.
Rolling her eyes, she mumbled under her breath,
"...It's gonna be a long, long way to Spoonerville."
