I remember the day it all happened.
May 15, 2078 in London, England when I was 6 years old.
I watched in horror as my city burned to ashes. The place where I grew up in. I remember hearing the city fill with the cries and screams of the people all around. I couldn't move when the flames got closer to me, my father had to push me away.
That's when I saw the flames engulf him. I was in shock, I couldn't do anything. I couldn't save my father, the only one who cared for me. Who was going to help me now?
I remember someone pulling me close to them and yelling words at me. I couldn't understand them, my mind went blank.
They turned me away and shoved me through an open door of a van. I folded myself in as much as I could, trying to make room just in case anyone needed it. I stared at the ground.
When I calmed down, that's when I realized how cramped it was. I felt someone breathing down my neck, but I knew it wasn't their fault. I heard other children crying and the air was hot and humid. Where were we going?
I remember hearing the news that the prime minister was assassinated. It was devastating news considering the fact he contributed greatly in the climate change ordeal. I didn't know a lot about politics, I was 6 after all.
I only looked up when I heard the door open. I thought we were leaving, but more people were shoved into an already cramped space. I couldn't breathe, it was getting harder to.
Now that I think about it, there must've of been hundreds of the vans from around the world, picking up the survivors and leaving the rest to burn to the ground.
For what felt like hours, the van had finally stopped. The captors opened the doors. The air, was fresh and clean. It felt good to breathe properly.
People rushed to step off of the little van, so that meant I was the last one off. I let everyone off and didn't attempt to step out until the last adult was gone, it was in my nature to put others above myself.
I hopped out of the van, and my legs felt like jelly. I tried steady myself on the side of the van, but someone must've pushed me off. I remember hearing a loud, demanding voice ordering us to move to a ship.
Why a ship? That's so old fashioned.
We shuffled quickly to a ship. I took a look back and saw six vans parked. My eyes widened. Six vans? If each van had the same amount of people like my van did, then a lot of survivors must've came.
We boarded the ship. It was like a cruise ship, maybe they were being nice to us. I spoke too soon, we were given rooms. I had nine roommates. Two of them were kids around the same age as me, and their names were Aquarius and Pisces. The three of us became close friends quickly. Even after all these years passed, I only
told them my deepest secrets. No one else knew except for them.We were stuck on the ship for over a month. One of the captors told everyone that we were going to the U.S. I've only been to that country once, and it was huge. Maybe that's why we're going there.
Later I learned that Aquarius was Irish and that Pisces was from France. That explained their accents. Now, all of our accents were... lost. The more we were stuck speaking in the same language and hearing others speak in a different accent, the more we got used to it.
