"What the actual fuck Evelyn, are you bringing a corpse with you or something?" your best friend Sienna yelled when she carried the heavy box upstairs. "Just a few more and then we have a break alright?"
For half an hour you carried the last boxes upstairs and collapsed on the couch with a beer. "I still can't believe i'm not seeing you around anymore" Sienna said. "Aw don't go crying on me, we can still text and videochat. It's not like i'm going to forget about you." Sienna was still pouting. "Now I only have Sidney and he is such a douchebag." "You'll be fine Sien you have a new job too, try to find some new friends there." Sienna sighed.
"So have you checked the neighbours yet?" you shook your head. "Well I tried, it's just me and this other dude on this floor but most of the time he isn't home." Sienna sighed again. "Well I do not accept that you replace me with that dude okay?" She stood up from the couch and grabbed her stuff. "I have to catch my flight Lyn, I'll text you when I'm home." They hugged each other and sienna almost started crying but she quickly pulled herself together and left the building.
Now it was just you and the apartment. There was still a lot to unpack as you only got the boxes upstairs, so, because otherwise you would be bored, you decided it would be a great idea to begin unpacking and put everything in its place. Ever since you were a kid you have always loved to organise stuff so of course this job of unpacking wasn't a burden for you.
After an hour you began to get hungry. "I'm not even close with unpacking." you muttered to yourself. 'Why did I have to bring all those little decorations with me?' you thought.
With a cactus in your left hand and some CD's in the other you decided it was enough. 'I'll resume tomorrow, or at least after I have had some food.' You grabbed your backpack and put your wallet, phone and keys in it. "very lady-like with that backpack Evelyn, way to go!" you cursed yourself for not forgetting anything but a proper purse so you didn't look like a 16 years old hipster wannabe. Oh well... this will have to do.
You locked your room and then entered the elevator. A solid ten seconds were needed to bring you to the ground floor. A quick hi was said to Abby, the receptionist, before you left the building and went on exploring.
This was the moment that you found out why your room was so cheap. The distance between your flat and a grocery shop was, at least on foot, not bearable.
you sighed and grabbed your phone to search some places to go near you. While searching you kept walking and were obviously not paying enough attention to your surroundings. Mindlessly you crossed the road untill suddenly you were taken out of your little world. A loud sound was made on maybe two meters distance. A car flashed in front of your eyes before someone roughly pulled you off the streets and onto the pavement. it took you a few seconds to let the scenario sink in. That's when you remembered there was another person and apparently he was talking to you the whole time. Or should I say, absolutely swearing my ass off.
"What the actual fuck were you thinking? You scared the hell out of me!" A slightly older guy stood in front of you with a visible adrenaline kick. You were still a bit pale and stared into the distance as the guy was still on edge.
"I GET IT." you shouted after a while. the boy stopped screaming and had a slight spot of annoyance in his eyes. "You should thank me you know. If I wasn't there you would've died." He had his hands in his pockets and gave you a judgemental glare. You sighed and thanked him. "You know, the next time you should've better let me settle down at first before you take it out on me, I could've had a seizure." The boy laughed and shook his head. He turned around and began walking. "Jerk" you whispered under your breath. "A jerk that saved you." He shouted back without even turning around. You facepalmed and walked along. The whole conversation just digested in your brain. "That boy was kinda cute though. Oh well." Let's just try to forget this and actually make it to the store...
The closest facility you could find was a half abandoned Subway in a sketchy neighbourhood. For today, this will have to do.
Finally sitting down with a chicken terriyaki sub, you hungrily took a large bite out of the bun, only to forget that there was hot sauce and jalapeño peppers on it. Your mouth was on fire, but especially since it wasn't so crowded in the Subway, you didn't want to freak out. Not in front of the cute boy behind the counter. You silently suffered while looking at one specific point of the chair in front of you, at least for 2 minutes straight. You spaced out while letting the spice settle down. Suddenly you got caught off guard by something moving before your eyes. The guy from behind the counter sat down in front of you. He was holding a bottle of rivella. "Here take a sip, This drink actually contains milk so it helps your mouth calm down." You thanked the guy almost like you worshipped him and took a few sips to calm down your mouth. When that was settled you could look him in the eye. "Thank you so much I was actually dying." The boy laughed. "It's alright. I'm Noah by the way." you guys shook hands. "Evelyn" The boy smiled. "you look new here, I haven't seen you before." "Yeah you're right I just travelled all the way from England." The boy grabbed something from his pocket. It seemed to be his phone. "Maybe this is too soon, but you looked so lost when you walked in here. Could I have the pleasure to show you around town?" You smiled and typed your number in his phone. "Now if you would excuse me, my break is over so I text you later is that alright?" I responded with an okay and gave him one last smile before I left the subway.
Too tired from everything I decided I would explore the tube tomorrow. Now I just wanted to get to my room and fall down face first on my bed. Man, what a rough first day.
