Chapter 2
I slowly blinked the sleep and grogginess away; assessing where I was. I was still in a ball up against the wall. My neck was stiff because of the position I was in so I cracked my neck as I puzzled over what happened last night. 'Well apparently everything I know about fiction and reality is a lie. Vampires exist, and so do angels, and I'm not sure about demons but they're probable real too! I think I'm losing my mind!' I shook my head 'Scratch that, I already lost it...So what am I?' "What am I?" I repeated out loud to no one in particular.
"We're not sure, Rina." Seth's voice pierced my thoughts.
I looked up; surprised that I didn't here him enter, but I had a feeling I'd be surprised a lot lately. "What do you mean?"
He didn't answer but asked a question of his own, "Rina," he paused, "I'm not sure how to ask this with out sounding crazy..." he smiled sheepishly.
"Nothing can sound as crazy as last night." I told him.
His smile grew wider, "True." He replied then his smile disappeared, "Rina, are you by any chance a psychic?"
"You-You're not serious?! Are you?" The shock had to be creeping into my voice.
"Actually, I'm dead serious. If you'll excuse the pun. Are you?"
"Rina, we need the information, please tell us the truth.' Lucian asked coming from my balcony.
'Wait how did he get up here?' "Lucian?"
"Yes, Rina?"
"H-how did you get up on my balcony?"
Lucian pause, "How about if you answer my question and I'll answer yours?" He compromised. Seth nodded in agreement.
I thought abut it and nodded with Seth, "Yes that sounds fair. As for your question: No. At least I don't think I am..." I faltered. It wasn't exactly true. I could sense things before they happened. Like before my mother died. The memory came back like it was yesterday.
"Mom please don't leave!" I begged her.
"Rina, I'm a grown woman. I can take care of myself!"
"But Mom-"
"No but's, Rina."'
And with that she was gone. Not more than twenty minutes later I was in the ER with Dr. Murry telling me she died. Two days later Chris called me with my best friend Shea- my best friend or ex-best friend- to break up with me, and telling me he'd just use me to get to Shea with Shea laughing loudly and telling him to get ready for another long night together in the background. Now I'm stuck here. 'I need to find a way to escape. But if the rest of this place is anything like this room it will take forever to find an exit.' Then Seth's voice broke my thoughts.
"Rina? Are you crying?!" he sounded appalled. His words surprised me. I felt my face, and it was wet. I sniffled.
"Rina, honey, what's wrong?" Lucian asked, wrapping his arm around me.
"Nothing just a sad memory."
"Want to talk about it?"
I shook my head, "No. Not really." 'How could he even begin to understand...The pain...Always moving...Dad dying...
'"Sweetie," my mother said talking to an eight year-old girl with black hair down to her lower back.
'Who's that girl? Oh right, me. My mother sure looks shaken, of course she's drunk again but...
'"Rina, we can't tell anyone about your daddy. Okay, sweetie?" she asked tears rolling down her face.
'"But, mommy, why is daddy all bloody? Why is he not moving?" the confused little eight year old me asked.
