Nerves

Chapter two

When we arrive at my house nobody was home, which wasn't surprising. My 3 year old sister, Daisy, usually has play dates around this time with her friend at the children's hospital. Her friend, Laura, got cancer at a young age but before she got cancer her and my sister met and became close friends. It makes me happy to see that she still goes to visit her when she can. I hope her and Laura stay friends for a long time.

I was pulled from my thoughts when Luna asked, "Do you want me to hang my coat in the closet?"

"Yeah, you don't have to ask, you've been here too much to ask for permission."

"I know, I just was being polite."

"Hey my mom isn't around yet, don't need to be polite."

She looks down and chuckles, the way she always does, it's sort of adorable. "Yeah well I haven't came over for a while so I didn't wanna be rude. Plus i'm not really a rude person."

"Yeah, well same things still apply as the last time you came over."

She nods her head to show that she understands. I grab my cellphone out of my pocket and hand it to her, so that she could call her mom to bring her some clothes. She replies with a quiet, "Thank you", and heads into the kitchen to talk to her mom. Sometimes I wonder how she can be so polite. I mean i understand some people are polite but she's always polite and smiling. I've never seen her mad in all of the years i've known her. It's sort of odd, I get angry all the time, so does any human being.

She walks out of the kitchen and hands me my cellphone. "So, is your mom dropping off your things?"

"Yeah. If she can get out of the fight with dad."

"Oh ok. Are you okay? You know you can talk to me about anything."

"Yeah, i'm fine.", she says looking down and crossing her arms. I didn't believe her but I decided to not push the subject anymore.

"So, you want to watch a movie or something?"

"Sure, what movie?"

"Well you can select whatever you want. I've got DVD's, netflix, and hulu."

"I'll check on hulu. I kinda wanna watch a horror movie and hulu has the best in my opinion."

"Okay, select whatever and i'll get sodas and popcorn."

"Okay!", she says excitingly. I love how she gets excited over little things like popcorn. Then again, she did tell me her mom was going on a health kick so maybe its been awhile since she's had popcorn.

The microwave dinged, telling me the popcorn was done, so I grabbed the bag and poured it in a bowl. I grabbed the sodas and popcorn and bring it into the living room. When I enter, I recognize the movie she chose. It was Saw. That was the first horror movie me and her ever watched. I haven't seen it since our last friendaversary. "Hey, isn't that the first horror movie we ever saw?", I say, handing her the bowl and putting the sodas on the coffee table.

"Yeah, I thought it had been a while since we seen it, plus last time I fell asleep during it."

"Yeah, you always do."

"Hey! I didn't the first time we watched it!"

"Yeah because you were scared to death by it."

"In my defense I was 11."

"So was I, but I wasn't as scared as you. You squeezed my arm so hard it left a bruise."

"Well sorry that I thought it was scary.", she says, rolling her eyes.

"Anyway, let's get this movie started.", I say, grabbing the remote and pressing play. I see the familiar starting screen that i've seen so many times.

When the movie was at around half way, I felt a head on my shoulder. I look down to see Luna asleep on my shoulder. I grab a blanket, careful not to move a lot, and cover her up the best I could. When the movie ended, I started to doze off but I heard a knock at the door, which woke me. I slowly get up, moving Luna's head on a pillow, and head to answer the door.

I open the door and see Luna's mom, carrying a bag that I assumed belonged to Luna. When she sees me, she immediately smiles and gives me a hug. "Hey Faith, it's been awhile since I last saw you.", she says in her usual calm tone that I remember.

"Yeah it has, how have you been, Mrs. Faye?"

"I've been good, and you can call me Katherine dear, you know that."

"Yeah I know, but it's been a while."

"Yeah it has.", she says, smiling at me, and then she continuous, "Anyway, I brought Luna's things. Is she still awake?"

"No, she fell asleep while we were watching a movie."

"Oh, okay, Well I should get going, i'm sure you're tired.", She says, handing me Luna's things and giving me another hug.

"Yeah, it was good to see you."

"It was good to see you as well, dear, bye!"

"Goodbye!", I say, waving, and closing the door. I put Luna's bag on the floor beside the couch. I then cover her up better, and get a blanket for myself. I sit in the recliner, and make myself comfortable.Then, slowly, my eyes close and drift off to sleep.
