I hear the soft crunching of leaves to my right. I stop walking and listen. At first I hear nothing, and then I hear a soft whisper. Two faint words. Two words from the voice I always love to hear. Her voice is always so delicate and quiet. It's soothing to be quite honest. It's odd to think that someone in the world is always so quiet. Perhaps that's why I've always admired her. I was brought back to the real world when I saw a hand waving my face.
"Hey Faith, are you okay?", she asked in her usual quiet voice.
I move my head in her direction, I slowly look up to meet her beautiful bright blue eyes. "I'm fine, Luna."
"Alright, just making sure you sort of got lost in thought.", she smiles and then says, "So, Where are we going?"
I give her a smile back and then say, "Well I was going to go to the library to study but I guess we can go to the park instead."
She brushes a piece of her short, dark brown hair from her face, and says, "Ok, off to the park!", She says in an adventurous tone, while pointing in the direction to the park. I just chuckle at her. I love how she's really childish even though we're both 16 now. It's sort of adorable and it reminds of when I was a kid. Wild and free. No worries in the world. Sometimes I wish I was still a kid for that reason.
We been walking for a few minutes when I decided to finally break the silence, "So, what do you plan on doing over fall break?"
"Well, our friendship anniversary is over fall break, so I sorta hoped I could come to your house for some of fall break", she says, smiling, as she purposely steps on leaves to make them crunch.
"Oh yeah, i'd almost forgotten thanks for reminding me!", I say, looking at her, and then I continue, "And yeah, you can come to my house anytime"
I see her smile widen, if even possible, and she excitingly says, "Yay! Thank you! I can't wait to see little Daisy, speaking of her, how is she?"
"Yeah, she's great, still a drama queen."
She was about to respond, when we realized that we'd reached the park. I watch as she happily skips over to the swings. Being at the park reminds me of when we were kids. I remember when we would go here everyday. Everytime we came here she always went to the swings first before anything. I've always wondered why but never felt like I should ask her. "Hey, daydreamer, are you going to swing with me or what?"
I snap my head in her direction and say, "Oh yeah, sorry"
"Don't apologize, i'm a daydreamer too"
I walk over and sit beside her on the swingset. I swing slowly and open my mouth before I realized what I was gonna ask, "Hey, you remember when we were kids, and you'd always go to the swingset before anything else. Why did you go to the swings first?"
I look over and watch as she stops swinging and looks over at me. I watch as she thinks for a few seconds and then she opens her mouth slowly and says, "I think it was because every time I got on them, I always felt free like a bird, like I was flying through the air with no worry in the world"
"Yeah, that seems like you", I say, chuckling quietly.
We sit in silence for a few moments when I hear her say, "The sunset looks beautiful"
I look at her and then at the sky and say, "Yeah, sunsets have always been my favorite"
"Same, they mark the end of my bad days.", she says quietly. I can't imagine her having any bad days. She always smiles and she's always cheery. Maybe she just doesn't want to make anyone worry about her, that's what I do at least. "Well we should probably start walking home. I don't want your parents worrying about you."
"Yeah, they probably are freaking out already", I say, even though I didn't want to. I wanted to stay here with her, even if we did just sit here in a peaceful silence. I watch as she slowly gets up walking towards the woods where we came from. I quickly get up and jog to catch up to her. "Are you going to go home?"
"Probably not. They've been fighting a lot more lately. I was just gonna go to Alison's.", she whispers sadly. I knew she was talking about her parents. They've not been getting along ever since Luna was 13. I still remember when she called me crying. At the time she didn't understand why they started fighting but now she knows why.
"Oh ok, you can talk to me y'know. I've always been here for you.", I say, looking at her. She didn't say anything or look at me. I knew that meant she didn't want to talk about it, so I decided to change the subject, "Hey, how about you sleep over at my place tonight?"
"Are you sure? I can go to Alison's.", she says looking at me. Alison was her best friend. I don't really understand how they became friends. Alison's the most popular girl at our school. She's as dumb as a rock. She didn't know the difference between odd and even numbers. I hate her. She used to pick on me when we were kids. Also everytime i'm around her and Luna she tries to make me jealous for some reason.
"Yeah, i'm sure. You haven't been over in a while. My mom has been asking about you lately so she'll be happy you came over"
"Alright, if you're sure. I'll just have to call my house to tell them and ask if they could bring my stuff over"
I nod my head, as to say okay. The walk back was quiet but peaceful.
