Chapter One

“Mom, you're kidding.” She must have been bluffing, but the stubborn look on her face changed my mind. I resisted the urge to stomp my feet on the reflective porcelain tiles of the store.

“It looks like it belongs to the 60's.” I grimaced, scowling at a pink shiny sequined mini dress. She opened her mouth to argue but closed it, and opened it again, resembling a fish. My mom sheepishly grinned.

“But its adorable, Bree!” She blurted, trying to convince me. I gave her a look and raised my eyebrow.

“I can’t wear this tomorrow for the first day of school.” I sighed. Or at all.

I placed the dress back on the rack full of crazy outfits. My mom decided that we were to go shopping for school clothes because she was going to be out of town for a while with her girlfriends and she craved mother-daughter time. I was just glad that over the years it lessened and lessened to where our bonding time is only on birthdays and school shopping days. Not that I disliked my mom or her tactics, but trust me when I said she went too far.

My imbecile of a brother Derrick didn’t have to go shopping because he was a guy and what not. And as if he read my mind he sent me a text.

Horse-faced Vomitmilker: Have fun with mom little sis ;)

And he had the nerve to send a picture of him chilling at the pool in our backyard, while I was here miserable.

Me: Shutup Vomitmilker. -__-

        He replied immediately.

Hfvm: I still don't understand how you made that nickname up o.o (Horse-faced Vomitmilker)

And then he sent another picture but of two shirtless guys at our pool, one was holding a huge bowl of water above the other guy who was clearly oblivious because he was smirking  like he knew everything. I barely skimmed over the pic, not recognizing them.

Me: who are they?

Hfvm: friends.

Me: oh, you have friends?

Hfvm: yeah whatever, gtg. Busy hosting a pool party, ya know. (Oh wait you don't) ;)

Me: Dick.

Hfvm: lol something you don’t get, CrankyPants.

Me: Ugh bye.

I placed my cell into my jean's pocket, and strolled out of the dressing room, flashing my mom the shirt she picked out. This was going to be a while.

After the strained shopping, that was full of begs and no's, I sat in my mom's silver BMW. As I waited for my mom to finish purchasing her Coach shades, I lifted my feet and stuck them out the window like a badass, and closed my eyes and listened to my iPod.

All of a sudden I felt my right foot become all airy and cold.. I snapped my eyes open and saw my mom open the driver’s side. She slid in and tossed my shoe into the backseat, carelessly. I took my feet out the window and side glanced at her.

“Was that necessary?” I asked, as I reached behind me to retrieve my converse.

“Nope.” She answered. Wow.. So I now knew for sure who I got my randomness from.
