Chapter Two
The following morning, I woke up to the smell of fluffy pancakes and eggs. Oh right. Mom was leaving today. She liked leaving things on a good note, hence the hot breakfast.
I fluttered my eyes open and waited for them to adjust to the brightness of the sunlight in my room. I let out a yawn as I stretched my body then relaxed and sunk into my bed.
I glimpsed at the left side of my bed and saw Kyren snoring softly. She must have gotten up from the carpet and back on the bed after I passed out.
Her bleach blonde hair was all over the place and there were dried drool on her face. I shook my head, wondering about the reason why I always let her sleep in my room with me. It made no sense when hers was across the hall, I just honestly didn't know.
With another nasally loud snore from Kyren, I bounced out of my bed and into my bathroom. After I took care of my urgent business and took a shower, I untangled my long wavy midnight black hair, brushed my teeth and washed my face.
I strolled into the room in only my towel and headed towards my drawers. I quickly slipped on a plain black bra and a pair of cute ducky underwear and over my undergarments I put on a matching blue and yellow ducky onesie. While I glanced at my digital clock (11:47), I threw my damp hair into a messy bun.
“Mmm. Vedy vedy nice.” I heard Kyren behind me, imitating a Russian accent. I spun around and looked at her. I softly laughed and stared at her sloppy appearance. My laugh almost broke through the act because her amusement flashed through her eyes before acting weird again.
“Veddddy nice,” Kyren stepped closer to me and gave me the elevator look, her eyes traveling up and down my onesie. “How much?” I played along, strutting closer and trailing my nails up her arm.
“$429 for the first night. Hun.” I exaggeratedly winked. My door creaked open and Derrick stood there grinning.
“This would've been hot if Aubrey and her dorky onesie wasn't in the picture.” He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively at Kyren. “How much?”
Remember when I stated that Kyren and I acted like real sisters? Yeah, Derrick strongly disagreed from the start and she became his ‘target’, if you know what I mean.
“For you? Hmm.. Too much.” Kyren answered in a sultry voice. Derrick frowned. Kyren and I giggled and childishly high-fived. I then fell back with my arms in the air onto my warm bed and rolled over, right before Kyren ‘wrecking ball’ed onto the bed. I stretched my limbs and laid my tanned legs on Kyren’s lap. I stared up at Derrick and wondered why he was still here.
“Why are you still here?” Kyren asked for me, with a fake sneer but a warm heart. I could tell that even though she had known us for a mere five years, she loved us. Us meaning: Me, my mom and dad and even Derrick. Cue the tears. Derrick smirked and snapped his attention to me, with a glint of mischief decorating his eyes.
“You're going to NBS right?” He was talking about the annual night-before-the-first-day-of-school party but we all just called it NBS (night before school). It happened to be tonight.
“As always, why? And who's hosting this year?” I looked at Kyren who was attempting to pat down her delirious hair-do, before drifting back to Derrick.
“Oh no reason and these guys who have this enormous house, they moved here last week..” He trailed, and looked at me like I knew something. Which I didn't, Did I? I looked up at him, confused.
