Ashlyn could feel the tension radiating from Granger and Kailee, neither budging an inch, both at a loss for words. Kailee broke the silence first. Well, her watch broke the silence by buzzing.

Kailee glanced down to examine her latest job assignment. "Oh gosh, I better go handle this." She stood from the love seat, turning to face Granger. "Are you coming?"

"I wasn't issued orders," he replied, holding up his wrist and showing that his watch was blank.

"Huh, well I guess we'll finish our discussion later." Kailee nodded towards Ashlyn before slamming the front door of her small apartment shut.

Granger glanced down at his watch, setting a timer before jumping up with a start. He about yanked Ashlyn's arm out of socket as he dragged her down the hallway towards the laundry room of all places despite her protests. Great, Kailee left her alone with a psycho.

"Hey, what the hell?" Ashlyn cried as he shoved the two of them into the room, shutting the door behind them. He reached over her shoulder, turning on the empty dryer.

"The windows always watch and hear everything," Granger snapped.

"That's creepy. So you are telling me that they watch people sleep?"

"Not technically," Granger paused, adjusting his beanie. "Well, I know of a certain perv who might-"

"You know those people?" Ashlyn interrupted.

"I was one of those people."

"Let me guess, you were the perv who got caught."

"Nah, the reason I left was much more serious than that." Ashlyn cocked her head in interest.

"And I'm not going to tell you why just yet," Granger snapped. "Now can you shut your mouth long enough for me to talk. It won't be long before Kailee realizes she was issued false orders."

Ashlyn wanted to fire back a retort, but she bit her tongue and kept silent. The dryer made banging sounds in the background, making it difficult to hear as Granger dropped his voice to barely above a whisper.

He leaned closer to her ears so she could hear him. Ashlyn always hated cramped places and she could feel her heart racing from the fear. It didn't help that if she moved, she'd hit the dryer and washing machine behind her.

"Look, I don't understand why the hell you showed up now, but something went wrong. You weren't supposed to appear for another eighteen months."

Ashlyn did the math in her head, frowning at the irony. In about eighteen months, she'd be experiencing both prom and graduation. Well, the only plus about appearing now was that she wasn't in a prom dress.

"I don't know what happened or how one of our Retrievers got their orders mixed, but if that were the case, you shouldn't have your memories intact."
