The prompt:
Here’s what you need to know: After the scuffle, the Command Center is kind of a mess, but that’s a problem for tomorrow. Now that the Piercers, Time Wardens, and Conquerors have been ejected, the party can get back into full swing. And what better way to cap off a martial battle than with its peaceful musical counterpart—the dance battle.
There are three contestants, one from each of the Worlds Collide camps. The Greencloaks are sending Briggan (four legs have got to be better than two, right?), the Hystorians have volunteered Christopher Columbus (all that time aboard ships has resulted in some killer sea legs), and the Cahills are offering up none other than ninja-master Dan Cahill himself.
So what do these three contestants have to offer on the dance floor? That’s for you to decide. BUT, through a series of polls we conducted on The 39 Clues, Infinity Ring, and Spirit Animals message boards, we do already know who the winner is . . .
. . . Dan Cahill!
All that’s left to figure out is everything in between. Happy writing!
My response:
The Command Center was in ruins. Thousands of dollars of high-tech equipment...destroyed. Miraculously, the only thing that seemed completely undamaged--without so much as spilt punch on it--was the sound system. And now that Peirce, Tilda, Zerif and their minions were gone, it seemed like the perfect time to use it!
"Okay, people!" Amy Cahill said, "I know that this may have been slightly traumatizing for all of you, so I think it's time that we all--"
She was cut off by Jonah, who had just seen that the DJ booth was still intact. "Have a dance-off!"
Amy looked over at him in horror. "Jonah, I don't think now's the time for--"
"Greencloaks, Hystorians and Cahills! We will each choose a member from our bunch to compete in a dance battle for the ages!" He gave Amy one of his superstar smiles and winked. Her mouth was hanging open. But when she started to protest again, she realized that everyone had started cheering. She shut her mouth abruptly and shook her head, smiling to herself. Jonah sure knew how to work a crowd.
Amy wasn't the only one with doubts, though. Sera seemed visibly worried. After all, there were only three of them. That meant there was a one-in-three chance that she'd be picked. She looked around and tried to locate Dak and Riq. When she saw them, she scrambled over to them and they got into a huddle.
Seeing what the Hystorians were doing, the Greencloaks and Cahills got into groups as well, all in different corners of the room.
"Okay, dawgs, who's dancing?" Jonah asked when they had all gotten together.
Hamilton looked at him, frowning. "Um, dude, you're the dancer here. What do you mean?"
Jonah tried to look embarrassed, but failed miserably. "Well, if you really thi--"
It was Amy's turn to cut Jonah off. "I vote for Dan!" she said, grinning. Jonah's eyebrows went up in surprise. She winked at him.
"I second Amy's vote!" Ian agreed, seeing what she was trying to do.
Dan started, "I don't kn--"
"Come on! It'll be fun!" Nellie encouraged him.
"But what if--" Dan tried again.
"It's fine, that'd be cool!" Atticus said.
"Then it's settled!" Jake declared. Dan was looking kind of resigned now.
