Danielle Sanders

"Alright girls! Fabulous work today! Don't forget your new costumes and I'll see you all next week!" Ms. Annabelle tells us with a huge grin.

I like Ms. Annabelle. She's teacher that actually cares about my education and goes above and beyond to make sure I succeed, unlike my school teachers.

I meet up with Emily at the bench and try my best to avoid any of the other girls. But sadly I am still tripped by an upper class dancer, Nicole I think.

I stumble into Emily sending her into the wall.

"Oh God, sorry Emily." I help her steady herself again.

She sighs and glares over at Nicole. "It's alright Dan, those upper class dancers can just get so....so...-"

"Their fine. I'm alright." I finish for her. "Hey do you need a ride home?" I ask quickly trying to change the subject

"Actually yeah," she glances down her her phone, "My mom is still at work. Apparently there's this big new story that just came in and the team has to work all night to finish it."

Emily's mom works for the Seattle News Team and so she helps report stories on the morning news and helps spread the information to all towns and news teams in Seattle. She's a co-host in the morning, then she works a second job as a grocer in the afternoon, and then heads back to the studio for as long as they need her in the evening.

Her parents are divorced and their on pretty bad terms right now so I can't imagine her dad will be stopping by anytime soon. I always feel sympathy for Emily's family having one parent to support her two kids by doing multiple jobs, nearly tiring herself out completely. Meanwhile I'm an only child and my parents have more than enough money to go around.

"Oh, well then why don't you stay for dinner?" I ask hopefully. "I mean, your dad won't be home, probably, and so you don't want to be home alone all night do you?".

She smiles at me. "Your right. I'll call my mom quickly and meet you outside in a second" she tells me.

I nod and go to wait for my mom outside. I duck my head to avoid the others dancers and this time I get caught up by the best dancer in my class, Willa.

"Hey, Danielle, is it?" she plants her feet in front of me. Her height overpowers mine and I look up as her feeling smaller and more of a coward then ever.

I give her a small nod and feel twice as intimidated when I see the smirk playing across her face.

"Well, I just wanted to give you another copy of the group number, because it changed, not that it would help your case anyway. I mean I honestly think you have two left feet." She tosses me the paper and grabs her bag with the rest of her cliche and walks out.

I sigh looking over the routine and I walk out and meet Emily on the bench outside. "What are we having for dinner tonight?" she asks me out of the blue.

"Um, I don't know, why?" I ask her back while carefully putting the routine in my bag.

"Cause I'm really in the mood for Chinese...."

I laugh a little and answer to my best and only friend, "Sure."

_______________________________

After finishing our dinner and leaving the dining room table looking like a tornado came through, Emily and I head up to my room to talk, dance, and check social media.

She tries to explain something to me about the new dance routine but I'm too busy looking through Matt's tweets to pay attention. I must really zone out at these times because next thing I know, my phone is snatched from my hands and Emily is staring at me with that 'Pay Attention' face.

"Dan, you've been really quiet ever since we got up here...is everything okay" she asks me.

"It's as it always is" I answer blandly before rolling onto my back on my bed to look through the skylight above it.

She sighs and comes to lay next to me. "It's gonna get better, don't worry."

Emily knows everything about my past. We've been such close friends for so long that I can't think of a reason not to share my troubles with her. I'm afraid one day she'll use my past and weaknesses against me, but then I remember the caring, friendly, hilarious, sweet Emily who is my best friend and would never do that.

"Wanna watch a movie?" she asks standing up and holding out her hand to me.

I gladly take it and nod and go pick out a movie. Emily seems to be rearranging my room as I go to make popcorn, and by the time I come back, it's sort of like one of those girly posts of the mini theaters you can make with your best friends.

Emily lays on her stomach with a pillow under her chest with the remote in her hand smiling up at me. "Nice job" I smirk.

"Thanks, now give me the popcorn." She gets straight to the point and snatches the bowl from my hand. I laugh and grab a pillow as well to mimick her position.

20 minutes into "Safe Haven" (because we are both suckers for romance), Emily is passed out, face down in her pillow slightly snoring. I sneak my phone back out and check Twitter once more before I sleep.

"Good night everyone, sweet dreams ;) " I read the tweet on my timeline and shut it off with a smile, a rare thing for me, and dream of the sweet boy who wished me sweet dreams.
