When I got home the smell of buttermilk biscuits hit my noise. The aroma of food penetrated through the house causing my mouth to water. I went to the kitchen and saw mashed potatoes with gravy, fried chicken and buttermilk biscuits on the table. I'm guessing mom cooked today.

"MOM?" I said but nobody responded. I went on a little mom hunt around the house but she was nowhere in sight. She didn't even have to go to work today so where could she be? It doesn't matter though, I like being home alone.

I was juggling my book bag in one hand and my plate of food in the other as I was walking up the stairs to my room.

When I got to my room I placed my plate of food on my nightstand and changed into some sweats and a plain black tee. My cellphone was ringing. An unfamiliar number was calling me. I picked it up anyways.

"Hello." I said shakily.

"Hey this is Cole." I instantly relaxed when I realized Cole was calling. I almost forgot I gave that jerk my number.

"Why are you calling me? Do me a favor and lose my number." I snapped.

"What's with all the attitude?" He asked.

"Because you're a jerk. You can talk to me in Mr.Hernandez's class but try to act like you don't know me when you're around your friends? If you're too embarrassed to talk to me in front of your friends then don't talk to me at all."

"Kenzie, can you please hear me out?"

"Only my friends call me Kenzie."

I know I probably went too far with that comment but I didn't care. He needed to know how mad I was at him.

"I'm not embarrassed of you. I'm sorry if I made it look that way, I just didn't want Tiffany going all crazy because I was talking to you."

"So this is about your ex girlfriend? Why does she care if I talk to you or not?"

"Tiffany is still in love with me and she doesn't want me to talk or be around any other girls."

"You can't keep trying to please Tiffany for the rest of your life. Stop being a pussy and grow some balls and tell that girl to move on. "

He chuckled. "Are you still coming to my party though?"

"Maybe."

"Please." He begged.

"Only on one condition."

"What?"

"Nisha and Gigi have to come."

"OK, sure they can come. Dress fancy, the theme of the party is homecoming so wear your highest heals and your shortest dress."

I chuckled. "OK bye." I hanged up then called Gigi and Nisha and told them that they could come to Cole's party. I told them the dress code for the party and they sound just as excited as I am.

I grabbed my plate of food from my nightstand and plopped down on my bed. As I began eating I couldn't help but wonder where my mom is at. She was off today. She should've been here. She probably went to the shop to go get her hair done. Lord knows she needs a haircut!

When I finished eating all my food I noticed my mom still hasn't came back from wherever she was. I tried calling her on her cellphone but it just went straight to voicemail every time. Where was she? I started to panic. What if something bad happened to her?

I left my room and went back into the kitchen. As I was washing the dishes I heard the front door open. Finally, she's here. I signed in relief.

"Mackenzie, Mackenzie you here?" My mom called out.

"Yeah, I'm in the kitchen."

My mom walked into the kitchen. She did not get her hair done like I thought she did because it's still a mess.

"Mom, where were you? I kept calling you but you kept sending me straight  to voicemail."

"Now you see how I feel when you ignore my calls and don't tell me where you are."

"Touché."

She removed her black shades which revealed her red swollen eyes. "Mom what's wrong?"

Tears were forming into her eyes. "Mackenzie, David got into a car accident and he's in the hospital right now. That's why I wasn't home."

OMG! It's about time! I know I probably seem cruel for not feeling sorry for him but I don't care. I was trying so hard to look sorry for him but couldn't help the smile creeping onto my face.

"Why are you smiling? Do you think this is funny?" My mom snapped.

"Oh nooo. Never that!" I said. Let's just hope she doesn't notice the sarcasm in my voice. "How did he get into a car accident anyways?"

"He was drunk while he was driving."

That isn't surprising at all. This was just bound to happen. Maybe this could be some sort of wake up call for him to stop drinking.

I suddenly felt my blood begin to boil. David could have killed someone or caused someone to get hurt just because he was stupid enough to drive while he was drunk.

"Did the person he crashed into get hurt really badly?" I asked.

"Not really, just some minor bruises but David is the one who got really hurt. They say he may be paralyzed from the waist down." Tears were now falling from her eyes.

This is a miracle. Thank you God for this miracle. You made David get exactly what he deserved.

"Mom, it's okay. I'm sure he'll get better." I was only saying those things to make her feel better. I didn't really mean any of that. I don't care if David gets better or not. He could stay in the hospital for the rest of his life and I still wouldn't care.

She began to cry even harder. "I just need some time for myself Mackenzie." She left me in the kitchen alone and went upstairs into her bedroom.

A huge smile spread across my face. I was so happy David was in the hospital and I prayed that he came out paralyzed. For all the torture he put me through, he deserved to suffer. He was finally getting his karma and I was loving every bit of it.

Do you think Mackenzie is rude for not feeling sorry for David?
