From May's perspective:
At the base:
Right, all the paperwork is done, all May has to do now is go and face the team one last time. It will be better doing office work, that's what she tells herself anyway. She doesn't have to speak to anyone there. Just as May prepares herself to go and tell the team, Fitz and Simmons walk into the room. May avoids making eye contact "I'm so sorry" she whispers as she tries to duck past them and out of the room.
"Wait May" Simmons calls after her "You shouldn't feel like you have to apologise, it wasn't your fault"
"But... But I failed, I didn't save him" May stammered.
"No May" Fitz stops her "You did everything you could, more than anyone else and it was not your fault. You went back to a place that haunted you and you got shot trying to save him, we should be thanking you."
"But they only took him because of me."
"You did the right thing May" Simmons continues "We know what would have happened if you would have saved the girl 15 years ago and it would have been awful. You did the right thing then and you did the right thing now."
"And we don't want you to leave the field" Leo carries on "You did good and you shouldn't feel like you did something wrong."
"And anyway, we can't let you leave Coulson again! You love each other!" Jemma adds.
May just nods as tears fill her eyes. FitzSimmons both lean in to hug her and they all clutch each other tight as the tears roll down their faces. Even through the bad times they will always stick together.*Would you guys like me to continue this fic? Or should this be the end? Please comment!*
