Adele's POV

I immediately become overwhelmed with emotions and start bursting into tears. It startled Dr. Konecki and Ally and they make their way over towards me.

"Im so sorry! I did not mean to make you cry." Ally rubs my hand while Dr. Konecki stands in between Angelo who was in his crib and I sitting up in bed.

"Its okay. I'm happy crying! I just never thought I would know who saved us. All I knew was that God sent me an angel." I could not help but have a big smile on my face. It was as if those two horrible phone calls I made prior to this moment never existed. He walked in at the perfect time.

I could tell by the look on Dr. Konecki's face that he was relieved that he didn't make me "upset."

He was as humble as he could be. He put his head down in slight embarrassment.

Ally broke the silence.

"You're a life saver Dr. Konecki! Thank you for saving my friend. She would always tell me over and over again how thankful she was of you even though she didn't even remember that night and knew who you were."

Dr. Konecki smiled.

"I believe my purpose in life is to help people, to give back to my community, to give hope. It brings me great joy to see the transformation of people I have helped. That's the greatest reward I have in life."

Ally and I look at him in admiration. Never in my life have I met a man who was as selfless as he seemed to be right now.

My Dad, selfish.

Alex, selfish.

 Alex's Dad, selfish.

For the first time a REAL MAN stood before me expressing his love of helping others. It left me speechless.

"Woooow!" Ally was just as shook as I was lol.

"Well ladies, it was nice meeting you both!" Dr. Konecki says suddenly.

"Wait your leaving?" Ally quickly responds back

"Um, yeah." He says awkwardly

"You just got here though!" I replied.

I didn't want him to leave. Oddly, just his presence made me feel so safe. I mean I know he's a doctor and all but this safeness I feel is something different, something beyond that.

"Well I did just pop up and interrupted what seemed like an intense conversation."

I wondered if he heard our conversation.

"You didn't interrupt. I was actually about to leave and then you walked in!" Ally says.

"Oh!" Dr. Konecki responds.

Ally looks at me and gives me a wink.

She wasn't about to leave. But I guess she could sense that I wanted to talk to him more which is true, and out of courtesy she wanted to give me some privacy.

"Alright my love, text me if you need anything." She gives me a hug and kiss and then walks over to Angelo

"Bye little Lo Lo" She whispered.

"Lo Lo?" I chuckled.

"That's his nickname." She flips her hair.

"Since when?"

"Since now!" Dr. Konecki and I chuckle.

Ally shrugs her shoulders while she makes her way out of the room, making sure to wave before she left.

"Am I holding you up?" I ask him nervously.

"No you're not. I wouldn't be here if I felt held up!" He assured me.

"May I?" He motioned if he could sit down in the chair next to my bed, and I nodded.

"I wanna know what happened that night. How did you find me on that dark road?"

Dr. Konecki begins to explain:

"I was driving back home that night from the hospital. I had just got finished doing a 14 hour surgery on one of my patients. I was extremely exhausted. As I finished turning the corner of the road I could see something as I was driving out of the corner of my eye. At first I thought it was a dead animal so I just kept driving. Something deep inside of me kept telling me to make a U-turn and drive past just to make sure. I was battling with my flesh because I wanted to go home so badly. It took me driving almost a mile after passing you to make up my mind to turn back around. Thank God I did!

Once I made it to where you were laying, I pulled my car over. I got out of the car, and that was when I realized that you were not an animal, but you were a human being. The closer I got, the more I could hear your soft moan. You were in a cradle position holding your belly with your eyes closed. I ran up to you and knelt down on one knee. I also noticed you were pregnant. My immediate thought was that you were hit by a car. I was thinking to myself, 'How can someone just leave you here like this?' I asked if you were okay, but I didn't get a response.

I checked your carotid arteries for pulses. They were faint, but not diminished so I knew you were still alive. However, you were extremely hypothermic and kept going in and out of consciousness. Your skin was very pale and your lips and fingers were bluish purple. I quickly dialed 911. I took my coat off and wrapped it around you. I made sure to keep talking to you, ensuring you that I was here and that I would stay with you until the ambulance arrived. Two other cars pulled over and asked what was going on and if 911 was called. One man had a blanket in his trunk and we put that over top of my coat on you.

The ambulance finally came and quickly took over. I stepped aside and  the two other people and I watched as they put you on the stretcher and start to wheel you into the back of the ambulance. I ran up to you and held your hand and said, 'You will be just fine young lady!' I know you're not suppose to give false reassurance... at least that's what they teach you in medical school, but even though you seemed to be in bad shape, I know that miracles can happen. I've seen it before!

I came home and tried to fall asleep, but I could not. For months I would think about if you and the baby were still alive. I didn't even know your name so I couldn't even look you up in the system. I would ask around from unit to unit. I found your name and what unit you were on from a nurse who took care of you, but at that point you had already been discharged. I was relieved when I knew you and the baby were okay, but I still wanted to properly meet you. I knew that since you were pregnant, you would hopefully be back here delivering. I check new admissions every day just because I'm required to as a doctor, but I always looked out for your name.

This morning I saw your name after 6 months. So I made sure all of my patients were stable and came straight over to see you... and here we are."  Dr. Konecki gave a big sigh after he finished

Tears flowed down my face, and I held my arms out in bed for him to give me a hug. He got up and we embraced for nearly 2 minutes, holding one another so tightly.
