The sun finally started to come up, shining on the tired wizards. The road started to smooth into just dirt and little patches of grass. There was a field of corn on their right while there was a small hill on their left. They watched as the sun came up, the colors streaking the sky. "It's already been two hours?" Natsu cried.

"That means we'll be there soon." Varian paused,"She's probably packing up her camp now."

"You know a lot about her, how long have you guys been together?" Lucy asked the man. A slight blushed crept up onto his cheeks.

"Since thirteen years old, which would be almost seven years." Varian smiled softly.

"If you don't mind, can you continue telling us about Rain and you?" Gray asked, genuinely interested.

The silver haired mage nodded,"Sure. Where did I leave off?" He asked the group.

"When you saw her, packed some things, then ran back to her." Wendy's small voice came from behind him.

"Thank you, Wendy." The man smiled and moved back so he could ruffle her hair. The girl smiled and nodded, waiting for the story to continue. "So, I ran to her, but she didn't realize it was me so she stood up, grabbed her brother and ran. I eventually caught up to them and she saw that it was just me. At this point, we all were completely soaked and needed to dry off. She lead us to her parent's old cabin where some of their stuff still was. She dried her little brother off and gave him some more new clothes to wear. She didn't pull any out for herself, so I showed her the clothes I got her and she picked some out to wear. She hugged me gratefully and left to go to the bathroom and change." He chuckled,"Meanwhile, her brother and I talked. Eventually, we became really good friends. Rain rationed out the food so it would last a long time. She used the money she had to buy medicines for her brother and take him to check-ups. Once everything was done, we set off on the road."

"What then?" Wendy asked.

"Well, people who have Down Syndrome don't live as long as normal people... so around three years later, Rain was learning Demon-Slayer magic and I was learning Mirror Magic. Someone accidentally hit her brother and in an attempt to save him, she used her Demon-Slayer powers too early. She ended up becoming half-demon and her brother had memory loss. I tried many times to replicate his memories, but it never worked. He came to assume we were his parents. We tried to tell him we weren't, but he would always have a fit when we said anything." he sighed,"A couple years after that, we were on the road and didn't have enough money for any medicine that he could take. We were walking to Magnolia when he collapsed and didn't wake up."

Lucy covered her mouth in shock and sadness. "Wh-what happened to Rain?"

"She isolated herself for weeks. We ended up digging him a grave next to his parents. Once we buried him, Rain refused to go anywhere. We stayed at their cabin for three weeks. She always blames herself for his death because she couldn't afford his medicine."

"What?" Erza mumbled,"That isn't right!"

"I know, but she doesn't listen. She can be stubborn sometimes. Oh and sometimes she stops talking in the middle of something because she thinks she's bothering you." Varian's eyes glistened. "We both stayed together. We never left each other's side. I promised her that I wouldn't leave her."

Natsu's snoring distracted Lucy. She hit his head and told him to wake up. "You stupid-!" Varian stopped her.

"It's fine." He smiled before getting back to the story. "The day he died, she was crying. She gripped me tightly and cried, asking me to never leave her. I wiped one of her tears away and said,'I'll never leave you.' She asked me if I promised and I nodded." A small tear ran down his cheek before he wiped it away. "I never thought she would be the one to leave me."

At this point, they were all walking on grass. Clouds checkered the dull, gray sky. A couple dead trees lined their path with some rotting wood cabins. A small brick school was visible from the path. Varian sighed, pointing to a cabin hidden behind some dead trees. A small lake was behind the rotting home with three graves and a girl leaning down in front of them, crying. "Rain!" Natsu called out.

Varian hit the boy's shoulder as the girl grabbed a small suitcase and ran. "Mirror; Jet's Speed." Suddenly, Varian was in front of Rain. Her cheeks were stained with tears and her hair was a tangled mess. "You could've at least taken camping gear." He sighed, taking the girl's hands.

"Why are y-you here?" She choked out.

"Because I promised I'd never leave you." She tried to pull her hand away, but he gripped her tightly.

"Let me go, Varian. Go back to Fairy Tail. It's the perfect place for you. You'll easily forget me." She mumbled.

His sapphire eyes widened as he stepped back, slightly. Team Natsu watched from afar. "What the hell do you mean?" He yelled. "How could I forget you? We've lived our whole lives together! We've been there for each other through everything!"

Her eyes glistened with tears. "I don't mean anything to anyone! You could easily forget me!

Varian gripped her hands tightly. "Stop it! Stop saying that! You know I could never do that!" Tears slipped down his face. "I was there for you through everything and you think you can just leave me like that?"

Erza approached the two. "Rain, you're a part of Fairy Tail now." She said with a hand on the girl's shoulder.

"Yea, we love you. You're a part of our family." Lucy smiled at the girl

"No matter what you do, we'll come back for you," Gray said with a soft smile.

"Yea! You promised to train with me! How could you do that if you leave?" Wendy smiled at the girl.

Rain laughed a little bit and smiled at the girl. "And you haven't fought me, yet!" Natsu complained, trying to make her laugh.

"You see? No one thinks that you mean nothing." Varian pulled the girl into a hug. "Especially me." He whispered.
