with elementary school just ending for conor smith, the young boy was extremely excited. although his younger sister still had a year left in the miserable school, conor was filled with joy. as he giddily walked out of the school, he remembered that his parents were at work till 4 today so he would have to walk with his younger sister home.

just as he was thinking that, a sudden brunette popped out of the school doors and skipped happily towards her older brother. "conor, you know you have to walk home with me today, right?" she asked, twirling her wavy brown hair tightly around her small index finger. conor scoffed, obviously annoyed with her already, "yes princess, i know." calling her a name he knew she hated. "i am not a princess! let's walk you jerk. "

as the two siblings trotted their way home, young conor spotted a couple of sixth graders fooling around at the local park, just a block away from where the smith family lived. "hey guys!" conor shouts loudly at the few boys playing football. they all look over and yell for him to come hangout. "conor, we have to go home, you can wait till mommy and daddy get home" charlie speaks very seriously. " char, they don't get home till four, it's 3 i can play some football for an hour and you can wait." he tells her and runs across the busy street to the park. charlotte, irritated with her older brother already, waits for all the cars to pass by and then slowly walks across the street and sits down on a bench near the field.

after about ten minutes, the little girl starts to get bored, and realizes how much trouble she could get into because of her idiotic brother. "i am going home conor! i'm not getting into trouble because of you again!" she screams at him and he didn't even seem phased. she huffs and crosses her arms tightly across her blue polo shirt. she grabs her bag and crosses the street without checking twice. she gets to the other side and looks over and notices her brother still playing and she gets even angrier so she stomps around the corner.

not even thirty seconds after she turned the corner, young conor notices that his baby sister isn't there anymore. so he apologizes to his friends for having to go so soon and sprints up the street and around the same corner she went. he gets home extremely quickly from him jogging the entire way. he pulls the spare key from his backpack and enters the home that smells like roses. "charlotte!" he yells up the steps. no answer. he runs up the steps and into her room and it's still freshly made from this morning. he gets a knot into his stomach when he doesn't see her. he starts repeatedly yelling her name in a worried tone, searching every room in the house.

conor frantically runs down the staircase and out the door sprinting down the sidewalk calling her name. as he gets to the street where she turned the conor on he gets a flash of something yellow. he immediately runs to it and picks it up realizing its his younger sisters yellow and floral backback sitting peacefully on the curb, and warm strong scent of vanilla still lingering on the bag.

with the tears pricking his eyes, his voice cracked softly as he spoke.

"charlie..."
