"To your left!" Celeste shouted as one of the Ares kids jumped out from the bushes. I tumbled off to the side but more of the Ares campers appeared from out of the woods.
Celeste and I got into a back to back position in hopes we could fight them off. Although, there were only two of us and six of them. By now, they had probably already got our flag and were racing back in an effort to win as Celeste and I were trapped, with no way out but to fight.
Alex Rodriguez, the head counselor for the Ares cabin dashed forward in an attempt to unarm my sword. I dodged the attack but then more of the kids threw themselves forward. One caught me off gaurd and I landed stomach up, with him slashing at my face.
I looked over to Celeste but she was occupied with Alex himself. She had begun to fly but he had entered his sort of rage mode, where he harnesses all of his strength and anger to reach his full power. A gift from his grandfather, Ares.
The guy on top of me started breaking through my armour. I knew I would have to get up soon, but he had pinned down my arms with his feet. Then, he knocked off my helmet.
I flinched, knowing that this guy was ruthless. He would get the flag no matter what.
As I shut my eyes for my impending doom, the Ares boy screamed and got flung back into the shadows. I sprung up immediately to see what had happened.
All around, the Ares campers were being thrown about by an invisible force. Some were thrown into trees and then lay down unconscious, but others were pulled down into the ground and just disappeared. One even fell from the top of the tree, and landed in the nearby lake. All if a sudden I heard a loud crowd, the marching of footstep and clinking of armour.
I looked off to the red teams territory and saw the entire Apollo cabin running full speed towards us, lead by Will Solace. The Hephestaus cabin were just behind them but the Apollo cabin were fast.
It then clicked what had happened. The Ares cabin didn't get beat up by Ghosts, but by Nico Di Angelo. He had used Shadow travel to fight them.
Then something else clicked. If I didn't get up now, I would be trampled by an army of demigods running my way.
Before I even had time to move, I was picked up by Celeste and we flew through the air. After I came to my senses, I began kicking a few of the red team in the head, knocking them over.
Will had almost made it over the lake when all of a sudden, there was a bright flash and all the other campers were knocked to the ground. A wave of heat rushed over me and I realised that wasn't just a flash of light, it was an explosion.
The Ares and Apollo kids lay on the floor, some out cold and others dazed and confused. Celeste flew down to the ground and we landed safely infront of the lake. I make a small path, a tingling sensation in my stomach as I control the water, and we step forward cautiously.
I hold my sword in front of me and Celeste does the same. We hear a rustling in the bushes and I jump back a little. My fingers tighten around the swords hilt.
All of a sudden, Gabriella Valdez, the descendant of Hephestaus jumps out of the woods with a flag in one hand, and fire spewing out of the other. I instinctively put my sword in front of my face, protecting the exposed parts of my body from the incoming storm of flames. Celeste holds her shield out.
"Oh, hey Luke! Celeste!" she holds her suspenders as she curtseys, uncharacteristically. She smiles as she throws the flag to the floor, unsheating her dagger from its scabbard. Dean Zhang stumbles out of the bushes trying to put his bow back into its quiver while simultaneously fumbling with his gladius.
Celeste stands forward with her shield and sword in hand as she says "I know we're friends Gabriella, but don't think I'm going to go easy on you!"
Gabriella laughs cockily. " Oh skip the small talk you two, I just want to get that flag over the lake!" her dark brown eyes narrowed as she launched forward at Celeste.
Dean, still occupied with his gladius, looked up a moment too late. As he saw my sword hit his chest, his hazel eyes widened and he flew down, and his helmet tumbled off too.
I turned to see Gabriella slash, a flying, Celeste. She landed in the lake, sitting down and coughing. Gabriella then toom her opportunity to grab the blue flag and gracefully jump over to the other side of the lake.
However I intervened. Quickly, I made a wave heading toward Gabriella forgetting Celeste was still in there. Their bodies slammed together, causing them to go rolling into the trunk of a tree.
As the water raced back into the lake, I jumped over it and grabbed the flag from the unconscious Will Solace. The water split into halves again as I walked over to just in front of Gabby.
And as I placed the flag into the dirt inches from her face:
I smiled.
