The rain's pitter patter was faint yet it still awoke Sakura from her deep slumber. The alarm clock read 5:32 am in neon blue lights. She groaned in displeasure as she turned the other way flinging her white knitted blanket on top of her head. After five minutes of her trying to get comfortable to fall back to sleep she gave up and decided to start her day earlier than expected. She watched the streets below her cover with rain as she sipped her warm tea. " Time to get ready for work " she said walking away from the large chilly window.
Even if it was raining the streets were full of people, either on their way to work or taking their children to school or possibly getting a fresh baked pastry , it was a full street. " Hello Mr. Yamanaka how are you this morning? " Sakura greeted as the local flower shop owner opened his door. " Great dear! Are you on your way to work? " " yes sir it's a beautiful day to save lives!" She cheered back as she waved goodbye getting closer to the hospital. Entering the front doors she was immediately greeted by the receptionist over behind the counter. " Zina can you hand me my schedule sheet please? " she asked eyeing the waiting room " absolutely Dr. Haruno " she answered handing her the clipboard. Time to get to work.
" Hey Haruno " a familiar wavy haired blonde called out running after the pinkette. " Hey Sabo " she smiled turning to face him. " how would you feel if I told you that I got you a manjū on my way to work?" He said shaking a small pink paper bag. " I'd praise you forever! " she giggled thanking her best friend before she snatched the little bag from his hands. " Are you doing rounds this morning?" " yes I'm assigned the third and fourth floor, what about you? " she asked " actually I have a surgery in about 20 minutes " he said glancing at his watch. " oh you're so lucky, what is it? " " this shinobi tore his tibia and bruised his femur but hey I better go, I'll see you for lunch" he said before getting into the elevator. " room 224 here I come" she muttered as she stared at her clipboard.
The morning went by quick as it was already time for lunch. Just as every day Sakura sat on the roof of the hospital that over looked the village. It was her special spot. Sakura unwrapped her onigiri and began to chomp away before she knew it Sabo was sitting right beside her eating his noodles in a calm manner. " How was your surgery Sab? " " it went great, another successful surgery as I hoped, he's recovering in his hospital room right this second " he then took a big mouth full of noodles. " I lost another patient..." she quietly said looking down at her lap, eyes filling with salty tears. " hey hey it's okay , you did everything you could ." " her name was Ariata .. she was just eight years old, her favorite food was vanilla sponge cake and she could play chess for hours and never get bored. I thought she was getting better although she was ill I honestly believed she was getting better.. but her fever rose and she began to vomit blood, she died within the next couple of minutes." Sabo put down his bowl and scooted closer to her until they were next to each other. He wrapped an arm around her shoulder and lightly squeezed. Their eyes never left the very crowded streets below, the whole view of the village was calming to them both. The sun was warm and inviting. Below them a group of children played ball, they had big bright smiles on their faces.. but then Sakura remembered Ariata and how wouldn't be able to smile so big anymore. " What was her illness?" Sabo asked " that's the crazy thing Sab ... I don't know! Sure I had my predictions but slowly her symptoms weren't compatible!" Sakura yelled out on disbelief
" impossible what about scarlet fever?"
" no I did trials on that and countless others, not to mention there has been reports about another patient with the same symptoms in the village hidden in the mist." As She explained his face grew more concerned about. " we need to figure out what this illness is and quick " she finally finished before standing back up.
