Adopted by Crainer and Thea (Book 1)

School?

"Quinn," Crainer said shaking me awake. I slowly opened my eyes.

"Time for school baby," Thea said from the doorway. Wait. School. But I've always done online school. This cannot be happening.

"Um. Why?" I asked then nervously.

"Because you need to meet new people," Crainer said. I felt my stomach drop. I actually
Had to go.

"But I don't feel good," I said.

"Honey you're just nervous, come on, let me help you get ready," Thea said as Crainer walked out of the room.

I showered as she picked out my clothes, then she showered while I got dressed. She came back in and french braided my hair and put lots of little flower clips along the braid.

I looked in the mirror at myself. I was wearing a white top that had lace on the shoulders, black jeans, and black and white flowered sandals. I did look good. However, I just had a feeling this wasn't going to go well.

I followed Thea and Crainer to the front doors of the school. I cautiously looked around at all of the kids staring at me. We walked into the building and into the front office.

"Hej vi er her med quinn og vi har brug for hendes ting til at starte" Ben said. Wait. What? Does everyone at this school speak Danish? This only makes things worse.

"Åh ja. Her er hendes papirer. Taler hun dansker?" The woman said back while handing Ben and Thea a load of papers.

"Nej hun taler hun ikke engelsk" Thea said. I'm not going to survive here.

"Ok, jeg vil lade hendes lærer vide." Thea and Ben nodded and turned to me we walked back out to the car for a minute.
"So, no one here speaks much English. We'll help you out but you're going to have to get through it," I nodded not knowing what else to do.

"If you have any trouble, show an adult this paper and they will point you in the right direction," Thea said.

"I usually do online school..." I said trying my hardest not to cry. I was stressed out and panicked.

"We know. It'll be easier for you to learn Danish here though." Ben said. I wasn't sure about that but I nodded.

"Ok, go ahead we'll pick you up in a few hours," Thea said and I walked up to the school this time alone, with nothing but a piece of paper in my hand.

I had barely made it three hours to lunch without crying and as soon as the bell rang in third period I ran out of class and to the bathroom. I locked my stall and hid my head in my knees. I let myself cry silently and within 3 minutes there were girls pounding on the door of my stall. Eventually, they got it unlocked and pulled me out. They started to punch and kick me. I just let it happen I didn't know exactly what was happening and then slowly everything started to get more and more black. Eventually, everything went black.

...

I woke up in my bed covered in sweat. I jumped out of bed as fast as I could and ran down stairs.

"Please don't make me go back," I said hugging Ben and crying into him.

"What?" he asked confused.

"School, please don't make me go back, they're mean to me and..."

" Hunny, what are you talking about?" Thea asked. Then it hit me. I had just woken up, from a dream... that makes much more sense.

"Oh... umm. Nevermind," I said embarrassed. They seemed to come to the same realization that I had as Ben picked me up and carried me to the couch. They sat beside me and Thea rubbed my back.

"We wouldn't throw you into a school you're third day here, let alone a school in Denmark," he said, I nodded.

"Sorry I was..." he cut me off.

"Don't be sorry, this is all probably quite traumatic for you,"

"A little bit," I said. They smiled at me and we relaxed for about an hour. Then they left to film a video and do a live stream.
