Ice is Nice

"Elsa?" Anna asked. "That was you...right?"

Elsa continued to stare at her. "No." She said finally. "No it wasn't me. It must have been you."

"But I don't have ice powers." Anna said, confused.

"Well, that was more like thawing, to be honest, although we are going to see if your powers are like mine."

"But, why would I all of a sudden have ice powers? I've never had them before."

"Hmmm... Maybe it had something to do with the fact that you were totally frozen."

"For 30 seconds!" Anna interrupted.

"Or maybe it had something to do with me striking you in the heart with my powers. Maybe that somehow made you develop ice powers. I think we're going to have to pay the trolls a little visit."

"But we don't even know that I actually have ice powers." Anna said. "Besides," she said quietly. "Ice is nice, but it's your thing. I wouldn't want to make you feel less special."

"Oh, Anna. Don't worry. I won't feel any less special if you have powers too."

"Thanks Elsa. Well, I guess we can try it."

"Yay!" Elsa squealed. "Just do kinda the same thing that you did with the thaw thing-except the opposite."

"Okay," she said. "Here goes." Just as Anna was about to wave her hand and try to make it snow, she suddenly thought of something. "Wait," she said. "Whoever heard of a red-headed snow princess?"

"Oh, just try it Anna!"

"Whoever heard of a person who had snow powers who was red headed?" Anna asked.

"Whoever heard of person with snow powers until I came along?" She asked. "Exactly!" She said seeing the look on Anna's face. "C'mon, you HAVE to try it!"

"Actually, not really." Anna said, folding her arms. "It isn't necessary."

"Please?" Elsa asked. "For me?"

"Fine." Anna said. "For you. Because I love you. But just so you know, I would have been fine you being the ice queen and me being the thaw princess."

"The thaw princess?" Elsa asked, raising her eyebrows.

"Yes, the thaw princess." Anna said defensively. "Now let me concentrate!" Elsa complied and Anna shut her eyes. She made a motion with her hands and when she opened her eyes... nothing had happened.

Anna suddenly felt bereft. How ridiculous of her to imagine that she could have powers. Elsa was special and she wasn't. And Anna was okay with that, at least she thought she was. All of the energy and radiant joy that was characteristic of Anna suddenly went out of her and she flopped onto Elsa's bed.

And with that almighty flop, a breeze began to stir throughout the room and the indescribable scent of autumn began to waft around the room.

Anna, unaware to what was going on in the room began to sniffle into her pillow-- and with that, it began to drizzle. Inside.

"Anna!" Elsa cried out.

"Elsa, I know you want to make me feel better, but please just let me wallow in my misery."

"Anna! Look up!"

Anna sat up and looked around the room with awe. "Hey! Elsa, stop that! You're gonna get everything wet!"

"Anna, seriously? I have ice powers, remember? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure rain does not fall within that category."

"Huh?" Anna made a face. "Then what the heck is going on? Are we under attack by some sort of,  I dunno, autumnal being?"

"Anna." Elsa giggled, putting her arm around her sister. "I think that said 'autumnal being' might be you. I mean, you're the one who said a red-headed snow princess would be unheard of. What if you have autumnal powers? And when I accidentally, you know, froze your heart, it brought them to the surface?"

Anna, remaining doubtful, said "Well, how am I supposed to know if I have powers or not?"

Elsa looked around the room as if it was obvious and said, "You could start with making the rain stop. I'm pretty sure this castle wasn't made with this kind of thing in mind."

"Oh," Anna giggled. "I guess I can try to make it stop." Anna again closed her eyes and pictured the warmth that was in her heart, and imagined it spreading from her head to her toes and throughout the room. She felt the warmth expand and settle in the room, drying up all of the rain in the process. And to make things even better, the warm and comforting scent of baked goods began to permeate through the air.

Elsa looked around the room with awe, breathing in deeply. "It smells like a festival in here! And look, you not only stopped the rain but everything is as dry as it was before! Can you believe it? I'm the ice queen, and you're the autumn princess!"
