I awoke to a loud commotion coming from down the hall. I shot up in my bed in a panic. The mornings at the academy was surprisingly peaceful and quiet, unless there was an emergency.

I looked over to Marshall's bed but he wasn't there. Standing up and climbing the ladder to Scarlett's top bunk revealed she wasn't here either. Why did the two let me sleep when it was obvious there was an emergency happening?

The yelling from the hallway didn't seem like it was going to die down anytime soon. I got out of bed slowly, still groggy from just waking up.

After exiting the room I noticed a crowd gathered around a room a few doors down. Cammie and Wendall's room.

The only people I could recognize was Dean Nancy, talking to our math teacher Mr. Pines, Cammie standing next to him with tears streaming down her face, and Scarlett and Marshall silent standing by the door.

I ran over to them and caught Marshall's attention.

"Why didn't you guys wake me up?"

Marshall stayed looking at the door to Cammie and Wendall's room but still answered me back. "We just heard a scream and ran out of the room to make sure everything was okay. We didn't really think to wake you up."

Dean Nancy and Mr. Pines walked down the hall leaving the four of us to ourselves without a word. I turned to Cammie, tears still falling.  "What the hell happened?"

"W-Wendall he's g-gone. Lou he's-" Her words were shaky and she broke into a sob before finishing her sentence. She collapsed into Scarlett's arms and Scar hugged her tightly. I can assure you this is something I thought I'd never see.

I tried to go into the dorm room but Marshall put his arm out to stop me. He pushed me back a few feet from the door.

"Let me go through Marshall." I tried pushing through again but he grabbed my arm and I stopped in my tracks.

"Lou just stay here please." His grip on my arm didn't loosen.

I took a small peek into the room and my heart sunk at the sight of blood covering the carpet floor. The cream colored carpet now had a splotch of crimson red in the middle of the room.

I didn't move. I didn't even know Marshall had let go of my arm. I couldn't hear Cammie's sobs anymore. I couldn't look away.

My voice was monotone. "Where's Wendall?" It sounded more like a statement than a question.

Marshall's voice was quiet. "Lou, he's... he's gone."

That answer wasn't good enough for me and I asked again, "Where is he?"

"They found his body this morning Lou..." He tried putting his hand on my shoulder but I just swatted it away.

"H-how? How did he-" My voice cracked and I couldn't spit out the last part to my sentence.

"Nancy assumes it was someone working for Clare. They found a post-it note with a huge C on it, possibly written in blood."

I continued to stare at the blood, now identified as Wendall's. The two of us were never that close but he was still my teammate, my partner.

Cammie's sobs had now died down to nothing. Scarlett was no longer hugging her but just standing next to her to make sure she didn't break down crying again. My eyes were fixated on Cammie now. She was in the same room as Wendall, so how did she not hear someone entering the room? How did she not hear her team member being murdered in the night?
