Chapter 1

    I was all alone. My entire family had been killed that night except for me, exactly a year ago in our ballroom. That memory still seems like it happened yesterday, and to make it worse there is a ball tonight to remember the Kingdom dreadful loss.
    "You need to find a dress for tonight." Claudia told me constantly. She knew I didn't want to go back into that room, for I haven't been in it since the murder of my family.
    "Why must I go?" I asked innocently. "It is your responsibility Sayla. "If you don't go it shows your weakness and we don't need that for our future queen do we?" She replied as she laid the ballgown down and exited the room.
    After I put on my gown on, I went over to my bed and pulled a wooden chest out from underneath. I then pulled an old picture of my family and I at the recognition of the Army  General at that time. I cried and my mascara smeared down my cheeks and on to my gown.
    I soon went down to the ballroom staircase and waited. They then introduced me and I went to the floor and found Zeya, a knight in our royal army.
    "You look beautiful Sayla!" Zeya said politely. "Thank you, but I don't feel like being nice will help my mourning." I suddenly replied. I then walked away and went up to my throne.
    Many of my Kingdoms subjects came in front of me, laid down a simple gift and bowed. I had received many flowers, crops, and jewels. Then, a old wrinkled lady came up to me and stroked my face and placed a locket around my neck. She disappeared in a puff of blue smoke just like that.
   Just then a child started screaming and I saw a man standing next to him. I recognized this man though, he was the one who killed my family! I ran. I ran as fast as I could and locked myself in my room. Someone started knocking on my door and I grabbed a vase off bookshelf. The knocking grew louder and a voice said "Let me in Sayla! I won't hurt you, I just wish to give you a message." I didn't believe him, and I threw the wooden stick at the door. Suddenly, I heard the man backup and kick at the door. He did this five more times and the door gave up and came falling down.
"Help me!" I screamed, but no one heard me except the man. He had a spear and was wearing a black coat and black pants. Then, he cornered me. Without thinking I opened my window and jumped.
