Melissa's POV

"So that is why the human brain is very important!", I read out loud.

"This is.... Brilliant!", Zayn said proudly.

We were just doing up the last few finishing touches to our project. I looked around annd realized what a mess we made in the living room.

"We better tidy up! My mum is going to kill me if we leave all this scrap paper all over the place.", I told him.

As Zayn picked up the last piece of rubbish and stuffed into the full bin, I heard the sound of a heavy truck pull up next door.

That house had only been for sale a few weeks ago! Now someone wants to move in.

I walked over to the window to see a family come out of the car parked out on the side. The first one out was a boy, about me and Zayn's age, with brown curly hair and was quite tall.

"Hmm.. New neighbours huh?", Zayn spoke from behind me, making me jump because I hadn't realized he was there.

"Yeah... I'll just go take our project up to my room, so it doesn't get damaged.", I told him, walking off.

I was about to walk down stairs when I heard a female voice dowstairs. Mum was home.

"So are you staying for dinner Zayn?", she asked in an inviting voice.

"Ummm...", he looked over to me. He gave me a look saying 'Do you want me to stay?'. I shrugged but nodded after.

"Sure!"

"Well, we're having a little Welcome Party for the new neighbours next door. I think their son is your age!", she told both of us. "Just make yourself more comfortable Zayn! And Melissa, honey, please dress nicer!", my mother said as she looked at my clothes.

Old ripped jeans and a baggy top.

What was wrong with that?

"At least change into your new jeans! And wear a better shirt!", she criticised me.

I groaned. "I'll be back!", I said to Zayn.

I ran to my room and closed the door. My red skinny jeans were around here somewhere.

I didn't bother putting on make-up. It was only a little Welcome Party, but I popped in some contact lenses instead of wearing my glasses (that I extremely hated).

While I ran back to sit on the couch with Zayn, I grabbed a bowl of popcorn and then walked towards him, being careful not to spill any on the floor, which my mum extremely hates because you end up stepping on it and squishing it into the carpet.

"Hey!", Zayn said without looking at me.

I barely sat down before the door bell rang. I gave the bowl to Zayn and he started munching on it and throwing some in the air to catch in his mouth.

I laughed and opened the door.

The Hudson family was the first one here. They had two little twin boys, 6 years old, I think.

"Hi Melissa! You look lovely!", Mrs Hudson said.

"Thanks! My mum is outside. Feel free to just leave the boys with me.", I said politely.

As they both walked outside, me annd the twins walked over to where Zayn was.

"Stuck babysitting?", he asked.
