------------------------------

Theo and I have been following the river up stream for a few days now, we stopped if we needed to but we didn't stop if it wasn't necessary. We didn't want to stay at one place for very long either, if we stayed in one spot that would mean that we would be easily followed by The Hunters. We had enough food, we had an endless supply of clean water, we had clean clothes and clean bedding. Some nights Theo and I set up camp in the trees, or find caves just off our trail.

Ever since that night of the encounter with The Creatures, we have been very careful of lighting fires, and leaving any traces of our existence. We dry the fish we catch in the hot sun, or cook it quickly in the morning, and this ensures us that we don't need to cook during the night keeping us safe. It's not only kept us hidden and safe from The Creatures, but also from whatever else is lurking out in these woods.

Even with Theo and my constant checking to see if we had left any traces we still seem to encounter The Creatures every now and then. The closes we had been to one was when we were sleeping in a tree for the night and one just so happened to just brush against the tree on its way out to hunt for food.

We had also encountered another type of creature. Theo decided to call them the "Seekers", he believes that they work hand in hand with the Skin Walkers, and that the Skin Walkers use the Seekers to "Seek" out their next victims. But of course we don't know that for certain as we don't have much information about them, we have only ran into them a handful of times. What we gathered so far from them was that they only come out at Twilight and disappear when The Creatures awake from their daily slumber, we have also found out that The Creatures and Seekers do NOT get along. We witnessed a Seeker getting torn apart by one of the Creatures. It was a scary sight but it was good to know as we can now learn more about both creatures.

Seekers are ugly looking things when pissed off, with their cat like eyes, broken black fairy wings, and rotting body. When in a happy mood they look like an innocent fairy that just woke up from their flower bed house. These fairies look innocent, but once provoked they change to their ugly shade, to their true forms. Their innocent look is to leer their victims closer and once you are within distance they will touch you, their touch is unnoticeable, like being touched by a feather. Once you get touched your body will have all the symptoms of having of a common cold, but once your cold seems to be going away thats when they come back and take you. They turn you into a fairy and you live with them, all your humanity gone and only the evil within stays.

Currently Theo and I were walking along the river bickering about the bet we made,

"It was your fault that you let the big one go! You were so close and then you HAD to yell!"

"But it was you who... Who.... AGH!"

"HA! I won! I told you it was your fault!" I playfully pushed Theo, giggling as I skipped away. Theo and I made a bet that if he jumped into the river and caught a fish with his bare hands then I would do all the washing for the next week, that included Theo's stinky underwear (they aren't really stinky but I like to tease him that they were). Theo took the bet and jumped right into the water, he was just about to catch a fish but decided to quickly congratulate himself by yelling I DID IT! Before even getting the fish. Now he's blaming me for his loss and demands the bet to start over as it was an unfair bet.

Things have been silent between Theo and I and I didn't mind that one bit, if it stops him from whining about his loss then Im happy. We were just rounding a bend in the river when there was some rustling from the near by shrubs. Theo immediately pushed me behind him and took up a protective stance. There were a few more shuffles and rustles then it went quiet, this time the sound of silence was not welcomed, it made the air around us thick with tension.

Theo had brought out a small pocket knife for protection and slowly started to head towards the shrubs that the sounds were coming from, taking one glance back as if to say that everything will be ok, and I believed that everything would be ok. I never doubted my safety when I was with Theo. As Theo got closer and closer to the shrubs the rustling began, Theo slightly flinched at the sudden movement and took a small step back tightening his handle on the knife.

A small pale hand stretched out from the shrubs. Just a small pale hand covered with dirt and a few scars. A small hand out stretching as if asking for help, as if reaching out for something; for someone. My heart felt tight and I didn't know I was moving until I felt Theo's strong arms wrap gently but secure around my waist.

"Evie, we don't know who it is, WHAT it is and what it wants. For all we know it could be a spy for the Hunters, a diversion, or a SkinWalker. We just don't know." Theo's voice was laced in concern and worry, his face was tangled in emotions as he tried to think of what to do next.

"Theo what if it's not a SkinWalker or a Hunter, what if its someone who generally needs our help. We can't just turn our backs and walk off!" I tried to struggle out of Theo's grip but he only tightened his grip around my waist.

"EVIE! We have to leave it. We don't know what it is! It could kill us for all we know. Could skin us alive, and use our skins as its own skin... Like um CLOTHING! To trap other survivors!" I stopped struggling when he said that and raised an eyebrow.

"Really? Use our skins as clothing to trick other survivors? What the fuck have you been smoking Theo? And can I have some of that shit, because right now being here in this situation is definitely not where I want to be," now it was Theo's turn to raise an eyebrow at me, his eyes showing clear amusement. Rolling my eyes I slapped his arm.

"Just let me go and we will check the bush together!"

"No Evie, it's not safe. Anyways we don't have that many weapons, we could be asking for unwanted trouble."

"Then LEAVE!" I shouted at him, how could he not want to help someone with their hands out stretched. The person could be hurt, could be dying.

"It could have something that we will catch, something thats untreatable. Evie, what if they carried the virus. Evie, please lets just go". I must have said it out loud because when I looked at Theo he looked worried, anxious, and a little mad. Sighing I nodded my head, as much as my heart was telling me to go have a look, to help whoever was in need I knew that Theo was right. What if they were dying, what if they carried something that we couldn't treat. What if they carried the virus. I couldn't die, I couldn't let Theo die. I wasn't finished with my Mission. I have to finish it.

My hand laced with Theo's, looking up at him and giving him a small smile and a nod before turning away from the still out stretched hand. Theo gently rubbed his thumb across the back of my hand.

"It's for the best"

"Sure it is". We were nearly out of sight from the hand when we heard rustling from behind us and a small cry. A cry we didn't think would come from the hand. A cry we didn't think we would hear.

"Help me. Please. Help me".

Theo whipped around so fast that I nearly fell flat on my face in the dirt, our eyes widened as we saw what had come out from the bush, what the hand was connected to. The small, weak voice called out again.

"Help. Please. Help".

Standing less than 100 meters away from us was a small girl.

A New Face.
