I was thinking that since you were kind enough to take me in, I can help out around here" Hector said when he was drying and packing dishes away with Althea and taiga was out on the front porch with his dog,
" really you don't have to" Althea told him
" its not a matter of don't have to miss Althea its a matter of doing the right thing, you name it"
Althea turn away then look at him again she didn't answer,
He was in the sitting room reading from a magazine when she and taiga came to say goodnight taiga hug him and he rub his head he watch as he ran ahead of his mother before the door to the bed room close Hector saw Althea look at him, he went back to reading for there wasn't anything else to do, he fall asleep on the chair with the magazine on his lap waking late in the night he walk down the hall and lay cross way the mattress it took him a short while to fall asleep again waking up with the sun light coming through the window, and voices in the sitting room he make sure the bathroom was clear for he peek to see Althea dressing the boy for school after he freshen up he went out to the back porch to gather his things to take inside they were all dry now for since the rain stop on Saturday it having come down since and the sun was out all day giving the things time to dry, he knowtist her peppers have been nicely package in paper bags and place back on the trey they were left on to dry,
Althea walk down the hall way to knock on Hector's door it was already open but he wasn't inside she say that the back door was open as she was going out to see him they bump in to each other, Althea lost her balance and land on her bottom on the floor, taiga burst in to laughter when his mother land on her bottom hitting the floor,
"Miss Althea I didn't see you standing there, I'm so sorry he said shifting the things in to one arm reaching the other to help her up, she kindly take it thanking him once he pull her up,
" my mom never fall before its so funny" taiga said still giggling
"I'm sorry miss Althea" Hector said once again " I hope it doesn't still hurt"
"Don't worry about it will go away" he smile when he saw her rub her bottom, and apologize one more time,
"We're going to leave now I hope you'll be alright on your own for a couple of hours" Althea told him,
"A couple hours miss Althea, how long is that ?"
"Just long enough for me to get the peppers sold"
" OK mam I will manage"
"Wish you luck miss Althea Hector said as he help her load the trey of peppers in the trunk of the car, "see you later taiga"
"See you later mister Hector" taiga said waving to him from the back of his mother car
The car was gone a distance as he turn to go inside he heard a lady calling out
" mister" she said when Hector stop she with two other lady came to the gate,
From the look on their face Hector didn't need to ask if they stop him to gossip,
"Can I help you ladies?" He ask in a polite manner,
"Are you the new boyfriend of miss Althea?" One of the three ladies ask
"Boyfriend? No mam miss Althea is already married"
"So you don't know her husband past a long time now four years maybe if you're not the boyfriend who are you them, Oh I know you must be her new tenant then?" She said
"we know she want the money for things is so bad, see now miss Althea has to turn to farming, which is not lady like I could never do such thing being a lady", the other said
" yes that is so true a lady should never do such things we understand that ever since her husband died she's been struggling with the boy and bills as such, but how can she rent in such a small house it must be uncomfortable" the third lady said
"By the way you don't seems to come from around here" the first lady spoke again
" no mam I'm not, I'm just in the neighbor hood to work miss Althea had given me a few days to clean her farm for she feel better growing her own vegetables, that's why I'm here and just in case you know someone looking for someone to work please tell miss Althea and ask her to past the message to me, if you ladies will excuse me now I didn't get pay to just stand around" he turn and walk from the gate before he was gone far he heard one speak softly
"vagabond" with a hiss,
"From the looks of him he's not even from a decent family senseless man"
Though they whisper amongst themselves he heard them but didn't think of turning his attention to them he kept on walking instead of going to the front he took the back inside they were still standing there when he got to the window and peek out
"Rude" one hiss loudly, flash her way back across the street the other two following closely,
