The cold and fresh morning air surrounded me as I sat perched on the roof top. The world was in an eerie silence as dawn fell upon the world making only the early birds and bug audible. There were no cars in the close distance, no kids playing on the streets (if they even did that anymore, these days), no people out and about on the streets but a few men and woman going through the waste binds lining the fronts of the rowed houses. Every now and then stuffing plastic or glass bottles into bags in the hope to recycle them and getting at least a coin or two in return.
I picked up my wrist looking at the time. It was 5:47. Most people would be sleeping for another hour at least. Some longer since it was the beginning of summer break. The time of sleeping in, going on adventures, exploring places and most definitely letting go of all of the responsibilities that weighed your shoulders over the rest of the year.
Teddy and I had finished our last year of Hogwarts a few weeks ago and just the thought of it made me feel sick to my stomach. Now, I was expected to get a job I would most likely have to do for the rest of my life, I was expected to earn my own money to maybe even support a family of my own some day.
I was clueless, completely and utterly clueless. I didn't even have the slights of ideas what I wanted to spend the rest of my if doing.
Well that is what summer was for.
Although I didn't even have a clue about that either. My parents hadn't planned anything for this summer. Albus was staying at Scorpius' house doing god knows what. Although, they were planning on doing a small europe round trip visiting the biggest cities like Paris, Berlin, Prague, Bern, Vienna, Rome, Budapest, Bucharest, Amsterdam, Brussels, Madrid, Lisbon and some more that I couldn't name because my geography wasn't really the best. Lily would be spending her vacation with her friend Rowan that lived in Scotland. And that left Teddy and I. We had many ideas of places we could travel but none of then fully fit our appeal. I wanted to go on and adventure this summer. I wanted to go explore places.
I stuffed my hands back in my pockets hitting a cardboard box. Without hesitating I took the cigarette box out and opened it. Pulling one out, I met it with my lips and light it. I deeply inhaled the lethal smoke and let it fill my lungs then exhaled and watched the smoke dance out of my mouth, then getting swept away in the light breeze. It was a process that always seemed to calm me down. I took another drag from the cigarette and exhaled as I pulled my sweater closer, since there was still a slight morning chill in the air, and let ideas float around my head.
What could Teddy and I do this summer? As silly as it sounded it was a tough question. In my last weeks of Hogwarts I hadn't even given it a thought since we were too caught up planning an extraordinary final prank, and it was quite spectacular if I do say so myself. Then the thought crossed my mind.
Teddy and I could go on a road trip! It was the perfect idea. We could travel, explore and go on an adventure all at the same time, while keeping the costs to a minimum. Just Teddy, I, a car and the open road. The problem was Teddy nor I had a car, and I was quite certain that my parents would never let us use theirs. Although my grandad always had a thing for muggles. Especially muggle cars. I was sure he had an old VW bus tucked away somewhere. Surely he would let us use it. Of course Teddy would be the one driving side he had turned eighteen in april and had gotten his drivers license then.
In satisfaction I let a smile lace my lips and brought the cigarette back to my lips to take a long drag. I puffed out the smoke and let my eyes take in the breathtakingly beautiful view of the sunrise, as the fireball let its colors melt into the blue-ish, black sky, painting it to perfection.
After a while when the cigarette was merely a stump, I flicked it off the roof and watched the small glow extinguish as it fell down eventually loosing sight of it.
I stayed up there a while longer, taking in the view, and enjoying the silence. When my eyes grew tired I slid down the roof back to the open window and climbed through as quietly as I could.
Walking on my tiptoes, I reached my bed and took off my sweater. As I was about to slip under my covers, I turned to the bed next to mine and saw Teddy, in a deep, peaceful slumber, shivering a bit as his sheets were hanging off the edge of his bed.
I walked over and pulled his covers back on him, only after admiring the sight of his bare chest for a moment.
Then I quickly stumbled back over to my bed and wrapped myself in my blankets. Letting sleep take over and the dreams of a certain blue haired boy, flood my mind.
