"Was it her?" Bruce asked as his son removed the mask slowly, placing it carefully down on the table before him.
Thomas sighed and nodded, clearly in deep thought as he replayed the entire scene in his head. She was different. And how she had managed to be so different overnight was beyond him. This wasn't the sweet Lucy he had come to know at school. This was much darker, much more gruesome and devilish. And he couldn't help but to blame himself.
"It's all my fault dad," he said as he continued to take the rest of the suit off. For the first time, he had worn the new bat suit his father had designed, reinforced with the best steel and bullet-proof material you could find anywhere. Bruce was reluctant in agreeing to let him go off alone but knowing the Joker's antics, he knew the clown prince was in the process of waging his war. He wasn't ready to fight just yet.
"What's your fault son? The only thing you did wrong was being pulled into her trap," Bruce said.
"It wasn't a trap," Thomas said as he grit his teeth in anger, confused about the situation. "I saw a kind, sweet girl at school, I was falling for her...This isn't her."
Bruce didn't speak. He watched as his son walked out of the room, his face contorted in anger and pain.
------------
"Not bad," Frost said as he dropped handbags full of guns and knives on the tables set up at the entrance of the mansion. Lucy, who sat on the stairs leading to the entrance, looked up at Frost and sighed.
Frost smirked as he noticed the defeated look on her face.
"What's up, kiddo?" He asked as he walked to her, crouching down to her level.
"Why do I feel this way?" She asked with tears in her eyes. Frost's smirk was gone and he now frowned at the girl before him, watching as her sadness consumed her.
"What do you feel? Hurt? Regret? Shame?" He asked.
"No...I feel complete. Happy. Excited. I feel like this is right..." She said as she wiped away her tears. "I don't feel bad for what I did. We...destroyed lives, Frost. Countless people. It was a massacre...and yet, I feel so powerful, and I love it. And I loved doing it," she said in almost a whisper. Frost's smile was back on his face as he placed a caring hand on her shoulder.
"Well, that's about as much remorse I'd expect from the Joker's daughter anyway," he said as he stood back up and gave her a thumbs up as he walked away. Lucy's eyes returned to the ground as she tried processing her thoughts.
---------
Thomas walked down the loud halls of the school he had met her. He carried his bag on his shoulder and his eyes wandered around him. Many people greeted him and tried catching her attention but he didn't hear or see any of it. His expression was cold and his eyes scanned relentlessly for someone in particular.
He didn't want to believe it. He thought if he went back to school, where he had met sweet, innocent Lucy, everything would be right again. It was all a bad dream, Lucy was in NO WAY the daughter of that psychotic maniac.
As those thoughts kept playing in his head, his eyes found a familiar sight and now he stood frozen in the middle of the hall, his heart pounding. Everything was in slow motion now. His eyes were fixed on neatly combed blonde hair that perfectly fell down her shoulders, the pretty locker she had decorated, her beautiful figure wearing clothes that complimented her so well.
He couldn't believe it.
The girl spun slowly around, so graceful and full of life. Their eyes locked, and he immediately saw her face twist from happy to distressed. They locked eyes immediately.
Thomas clenched his fist as he saw Lucy before him, so beautiful, so perfect, so evil. He let out a low throaty growl but controlled his anger.
"You..." he said as he glared viciously at her. He was so in love with her and yet, he knew she wasn't good. She was up to no good, she was responsible for loss of life. But what was she doing here?
Lucy took a step back, clutching on her books as her back hit her locker behind her.
"Thomas..." She said, returning his hard glare. All she saw was red, remembering that Batman, Thomas's own father, took away her mother from her.
"Why are you here?" He asked.
"What are you talking about? I'm a student here.." She said mockingly.
"Cut the crap," he bit.
"You're one to talk..." She said as she walked towards him. Once she was about to pass him, she leaned into his ear.
"I am motherless, thanks to your father. As far as I'm concerned, Justice is being served." Lucy whispered.
"And what about Kathy?" Thomas asked, making Lucy pause. He turned to her and leaned into her. "That's right, our friend Kathy, who you almost killed, is alive and well."
Lucy's eyes twisted in panic. Shit. She was alive and probably knew it was Lucy who was about to kill her. But what had happened? Why had Lucy not been captured then?Just then, Lucy felt a hand on her shoulder. She jumped and turned back, coming face to face with the girl she was hoping not to see. The girl she almost had killed. Lucy froze immediately, a look of terror on her face. She knew this was it. She would be thrown into jail or the asylum and it would be the end of the road for her. How pathetic.
"Hi! I'm Kathy, the new editor of the school newspaper, I'd love to have you interviewed for our new student segment!" Kathy chirped. Lucy looked at Thomas, who had a smirk on his face.
"That's right, Kathy here was promoted to editor this morning and I suggested she interview you," Thomas smirked. Lucy stared daggers at him as Kathy walked away.
"You do NOT wanna fuck with me!" Lucy spat in a vicious tone, making Thomas chuckle.
"Relax, I wiped her memory as far back as last week. As you can tell, she didn't suspect a thing. Besides, you wore that mask and jumpsuit...no one here could tell it was you." Thomas said.
He saw a totally different Lucy than he was used to.
"What happened to that sweet girl I met? I still feel the same about you, Lucy," he said pleadingly, watching her closely, hoping her expression would change. But no such luck."I'm the same person, I was just...enlightened.." She said.
"No, brainwashed. You're so much better than him. He knows it, and you know it. He's trying to change you, but he doesn't want this for you, Lucy, I know that. I could see it. I know as crazy as he is, he's trying to manipulate you to be more like him. But on the other hand he wants you to lead your normal life." Thomas said.
"You don't even know what you're saying," Lucy shook her head.
"Ask him then, ask him what he wants from you," Thomas said as he stared deeper into her eyes.
Lucy scoffed and kept her gaze fixed on him. Without a word, she walked away. Once she was away from everyone, she fished out her phone from her pocket.
Bringing the phone up to her ear, she heard the soft rings until a familiar voice answered the call.
"Miss?" Frost's soft voice was heard.
"Pick me up. Now." She said in a distressed tone and then hung up.
