The stands were full of people coming to watch the game today. We played in a rich looking stadium versing the Ravens. Ted was suspended from playing this game, so he sat watching from the dugout. A majority of the crowd was for the Ravens, which wasn't a surprise since we were playing in their stadium.

The score was tied in the third inning: 0-0. Suddenly, a loud boom rang out and it was followed by large flashes of light. A storm.

The game was put on hold and everyone went inside for safety. Our team gathered in the locker room. The door swung opened and the opposing team came inside.

"This is the only place we can go. The other locker room is full of people." The Raven's coach said. Their team squeezed inside, making it very cramped. No one said a word which made it even more awkward.

"Storm doesn't look like its gonna stop anytime soon." Our coach said, pulling out his phone.

I sighed. Boom! The thunder made me jump where I was standing. Boom! Again it came. Heavy raindrops thumped on the roof. Suddenly the lights went out, leaving us seeing shadows of each other.

"The generator should kick in soon." Coach said.

I began walking towards Ted when I tripped on something and fell. A few men chuckled.

"What'd he do you you, huh?" Jake got up in a guy's face. He must've tripped me. They began bickering.

"Shut up!" I yelled and they fell silent. I got to my feet and the generator kicked in, leaving us in an eerie red glow.

"I'm gonna cancel the game. We will continue tomorrow." Coach said. We all moaned. "So everyone get home and my team go to the bus."

I went to Ted who was talking with Jake.

"Aron, ya think ya could come over? Ya dad thinks it won't end 'till late tonight." Ted said.

"Yeah, I'll come with you." I replied.

"Jake is comin' too." We all walked out of the dark room and exited the field to the sidewalk. Rain poured down on us and within seconds we were drenched. The bus pulled up with its brights on. Everyone filed into the bus, eager to get out of the rain.

Coach did a tally and everyone was here. Puddles were on the seats.

The driver went extremely slow because they could barely see two feet ahead. An awkward silence followed.

Jake began to sing, "My Oh My," by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Soon, everyone was singing it.

"Under that light rain, gleaming in that night game, can't stop now
Keep moving, no brake pads!
Came here to prove a point, live my life on the field
Make history in between the base paths
And compete against the fear that is in me that's my only barrier and I swear that I'mma break that!
From the mud
The cleats that we drug
Through the feet
This is that moment, and you can't take it back"

Suddenly, the driver slammed down on the brake and we lost control, spinning on the road. We came to a harsh stop, the bus leaning to the right.

"Everyone alright?" Coach asked and we all replied yes. One by one, we filed out of the bus. We tried waving down cars to help us out of the ditch we were in, but none stopped even though they saw us. One large, fancy, expensive bus passed honking. It was the other team and they didn't even care to stop.

We followed the coach across the road to a nearby hotel.

Soaking wet, we entered it and walked to the front desk.

"Can I help you?" The worker asked the coach.

"We want 13 rooms for the night."

"You're lucky because a wedding just left here so we have those rooms available now."

"Everyone double up." Coach said and we picked partners. Ted was already chosen so I went with Jake.

Everyone's rooms were scattered along the hotel. Jake and I went to the sixth floor to out assigned room.

Setting our stuff down on our claimed beds, I realized that my dad is expecting me to come home.

"I gotta call my dad." I told Jake.

"Take your time." He flopped down on the bed and turned on the small television.

"Hey, uh, I can't come home tonight. The team was caught in a storm and we are in a hotel."

"Fine. Tell me when you lose your game tomorrow. I don't think you will ever make it to semi-finals."

"Thanks for your support." I said sarcastically and hung up. But he had a point, if we lose tomorrow's make up game, we are out and don't advance further.

"Got issues?" Jake asked.

"More than you could imagine." I replied.

"I bet it isn't." Jake challenged.

"How? My dad slammed me through a wall the other day."

"That is pretty bad, but not as bad. Luckily, I live on my own now but as a child, I was abused by my own brother. I'd come home from school and he would take his anger out on me. Left me 6 scars."

"Wow I'm sorry."

"For what? I'm on this great team that is my new family. What else do I need?" I thought about Jakes words. People did have it worse than me. But he is right, this is my family now.

The rest of the night went horribly. The thunder was so loud that it would practically shake our room, leaving both Jake and I turning in our beds all night.
