Chapter 1

I dash across the snow, thankful for it being packed down. I dive into hole dug in the snow.

"Find me here Jay." I say, hiding in the hole, my white clothing camouflaging me.

"Maybe I will." Jay says, his head popping in my hiding place.

I jump where I sit, hitting my head on the top of the snow cave.

"Holy crap Jay!! You can't scare me like that." I yell, pushing him away as I crawl out.

"And why's that?" He asks, helping me brush off the snow.

"Because you just can't."

He rolls his eyes at me, "Anyway, it's your turn."

"I'm bored of this game. We are 17 and we are playing hide and go seek. Can we just go see if they need help at command?" I say, walking towards the command center.

"I guess. Since I can't change your mind." Jay says, walking up, throwing his arm around my shoulder.

"Excuse me?" I ask, grabbing his sleeve and pulling it off my shoulder, letting his arm drop to his side.

"Spoil sport. Everyone things we are already dating, why can't we play to that rumor?" Jay asks, trying to grab my hand.

"Because I really would like to keep my job." I say, pulling my hand away.

He mutters a few words I have no desire of knowing. I grab out my key car, and swipe it, the door unlocking, "Hurry up you slow thing." I say, holding open the door.

"Just because of that, I am going to take my own sweet time." He says, walking even slower.

"Then I'm not going to stand here and keep the door open for you, and you don't have your card key." I say, walking into the building, the door closing and locking.

"Hey!" He yells, running to the door, but not getting to it before the door closes.

"Hay is for horses." I say, giving him a smirk through the window on the door.

"C'mon, just open the door." He says, pulling on door handle.

"Only, if you admit that you need me."

"No, because I don't."

"Yes you do, or you won't be getting into the building unless you go all the way back to your room and get your card key."

"Fine, I need you, I need you to open this door for me and that means I need you."

"What about when we made the drug bust last week and you almost got shot? Did you need me then?"

"Yes, and I will always need you."

"Good boy." I say, opening the door.

"Hope, why didn't you become a lawyer? Why are you an agent?" He asks, brushing off the few flakes of snow that fell on his sleek leather jacket.

"Because lawyers lie too much." I say, turning, my boots thudding against the hard marble floor.

"Yeah, that's true." He says, running after me, and clicking the elevator button.

"Take the stairs, it's quicker." I say, starting up them.

"Yeah, I know." He says, stepping in the elevator.

I run up the 12 flights of stairs and stand by the elevator, waiting for him to come up. Counting every second it takes for him.

"1 minute, 12 seconds. So, 72 push ups." I say, as the elevator door opens.

"Can I just do the other option and pay $72 dollars?" He asks, pulling out his wallet.

"Look, you take half and I'll take half." I say, taking off my coat.

"Nah, it's okay. I'll challenge Austin to a push up challenge and not tell him why." He says, walking with me to commander and chiefs office.

"Agent Wilson and Agent Jones here to see Commander and Chief." I say, showing the lady at the front desk our badges.

"You guys can't be agents, you're too young." She says, looking at them.

"You're obviously new, Hope Wilson and Jayden Jones." I say, pointing to our photos on the wall for leading team task force.

"Oh! Yes, sorry. She will see you know." She says, point back to chiefs office.

"Thank you." We say, walking down the hall and knocking on chiefs office door.

"Enter." Chiefs voice comes from inside.

We open the door slowly and walk into chiefs immaculate office.

"Agent Wilson and Agent Jones." I say, standing at the end of her desk as she looks up at us.

"Hope!" Chief says, looking up from her paper.

"Hi mom."

"Yes, what can I help you both with?" She asks, looking from Jay to me.

"Just wondering if you needed us to look over cases or get prepped for a mission." Jay says, putting his arm around me and squeezing me in a hug.

"Bad Jay! Down boy!" I say to him like a dog, pulling his arm off of me.

"Hope, he's not a dog!" My mom says, turning to her filing cabinet and looking at a few files.

"Could've fooled me..." I mutter, sitting down on one of the chairs and pulling out my phone.

"Thanks Hopey, I feel the love." Jay says, sitting in the chair across from me.

"Excuse me, what did you call me?" I ask, popping the knuckles on my right hand.

"Hope, I called you Hope." He says quickly, putting his hands out to stop me.

"That's what I thought." I say, going back to Candy Crush Saga.

"Well, you could always help the SWAT team with their tactical plan. But other then that it's been quiet, a little too quiet for my liking. Knock on wood." My mom says, knocking on the top of her desk.

"That's always fun... Not. Can we leave the base and go out into town? Please...." I ask, giving my mom the puppy dogs eyes that always win.

"Oh, Hope. You know I can't say no when you give me those eyes. Yes, that's fine. Just give your guns and badges to Morgan before you leave." She says, reaching for her purse.

"Mom, it's okay. Jay and I got our pay checks on Monday. And I have $1200 in checking I can transfer to my debit. We'll be fine." I say, standing up.

"My baby is growing up!" She says, pulling me into a hug.

"Mom, I was issued my side weapon when I was 12. I have long since stopped being a baby." I say, rolling my eyes and hugging her back.

"I know... I know." She says, letting me go, "Now go have fun, but not too much fun."

"I won't. Trust me, I won't."
