There was once a girl named Alanna. She had always been a believer of things that seemed unreal, as she was but a child at the age of 5. This little girl had beautiful long hair, with strangely natural blue highlights that hid in her hair, less it'd been seen in the lights of her house. Yet, whenever she was outside, in the bright sun, you could always see the hidden blue that was in her hair. Alanna had always heard the table that is the Mermaid Princess, leading her to want to see if she could find her. See if she was just a pretty, strong, and kind as the stories suggested, but, alas, she didn't live in a village near the ocean.
After some years of desperately wishing to be near the ocean, you could imagine the shock and excitement that filled the now 12 year old Alanna, when her mother had told her they were traveling to a village near the ocean. "Mother, are we really going to be near the ocean?" She would ask as the days neared to when they would move. "Yes, Alanna, but your not allowed to venture farther than the docks when you go swimming without me." Her mother would always respond. "I won't, momma, I won't." Alanna promised, with the biggest smile she could muster.
Alanna thought the day they'd travel could never come any sooner. But she still couldn't be there yet, they had to walk, as they had no other mode of transportation. So, by the time they finally got to there new home in the new village, it felt to her like it had taken years, when really, it was about two and a half days. When finally in her new bedroom, she just decided to sleep, helping her mother the next day. When all was said and done, she went out to the docks for a swim, after telling her mother, of course.
Alanna kept going out to swim for the next week, eventually, it became her new favourite thing to do. Her long hair soon became a nuisance, everytime she swam it kept sticking to her and her face, blocking most of her vision. After awhile, she had had enough, getting a knife, going to their bathroom, and cutting all of her long hair off, cutting it barely past her ears. When her mother came home and saw her daughter's short hair, she asked why, to which her daughter responded simply with, "It gets in the way." Her mother was not happy, but with Alanna having not done anything bad ever before, she simply gave her a harsh, yet light, scolding.
Around two months later, Alanna had completely changed her style. What was once dainty girly girl, was now an athletic tomboy. Now skipping out on wearing skirts and dresses, she chose to wear pants and shorts. While a girl wearing typical male clothing was not unheard of in the world of Asdivine, it was still uncommon, still, Alanna kept this new style, though she often got mistaken for a boy.
Now 26 and living alone, her mother moved again around two years prior, she still kept her passion for swimming, eventually gaining the nickname Aqua, which, more often than not, she'll say is her real name to the new people she addresses. While not being sociable, she became to talk of her village, being quite a bit popular for her unknown-to-her beauty and strange love of water. Most times, you'd have to talk with her while she's on a swim.
Now in her mid-to-late 30's, she still alone, and still swimming. Unknowing to her, this could quite possibly be the last swim she takes. Taking the initiative to relax for this swim, Alanna simply floats on her back with her eyes closed, allowing the current to soak her away. When she later opens her eyes again, she sees she is no where near the shore. With a slight sense of panic, she swims to where she thinks her home is. Alanna swims and swims, but...it's no use. She's too far away from the shore, too far away from her home, away from....from any sight of land or ship. But she keeps going, she hasn't given up hope yet.
Even with her growing more and more exhausted, she keeps at it. "Help!! Help me, please!" She'd scream sometimes, "Is anyone near!? Please! Come get me!" She's loosing her hope, not knowing she's swimming in one big circle, not finding a village! It's getting too dark! She's starting to grow more tired! She knows she can't keep going, she knows it! But...Alanna keeps going, it doesn't matter how tired she is! It doesn't matter!
She's starting to get out of breath. "Mom! Mom, help me!" She yells, knowing her mother is no where near her. "I need help! Mom!" She cries. She's starting to sink, loosing her momentum! Alanna can see land...but...but it's too far away, she can't make it. She's crying, crying for someone to find her before it's too late. Crying to be saved. But it's too late. Before she notices it, she's drowning. The burning in her lungs, the lack of air. She doesn't notice it...but she's still crying. She's wishing this played out differently.
A little later, she is found by a sprite, floating. The sprite brings her to land, probably wishing they'd been there to help her, but even so, that'd be going against their deities rule, to never interfere with the life or death of a human. The village her corpse was taken too, was one near Atlantica, the very village her mother was at. When Alanna's mother saw her daughter's corpse, she was deviated. Her only child, taken from her. Her wonderful little girl, this...this couldn't be her. But it was. She knew it too, she just didn't believe it.
Alanna's mother buried her near the where she loves to be the most. Alanna was buried closer to Atlantica, but not there, facing north to it on land. Her mother went into a state of depression, never coming near that island again, missing her daughter, but never wanting to go to the place that would remind her of her only child. When her mother fled, she didn't notice that a tiny sapling was beginning to grow, the deity Izayoi had come that day, bringing the girl, robbed of her life, a new one, as a spirit. As a protector. Alanna would be the new water spirit, the new Mermaid Princess, as the current one's, Amanzi's*, tree was wilting, bringing a small sense of pain to her everyday.
A decade or 2 later, Alanna's spirit tree is now a bit more grown, still a sapling but old enough for her to take a physical form, whiles Amanzi's has now died. Alanna now fully goes by Aqua, no one says her old name. Aqua is still a bit immature at this time, but she's proven her worth as a spirit, ruler, essentially, of Alantica and the sprites living there. She's caring for each one, even though now, she seems almost emotionless. She became the new Mermaid Princess, and was so giddy to find the out when she was reborn.

Soooo....yeah. ummmm....well I have no words. Oh, Amanzi is Zulu for water, I wanted a different language for the previous water spirit(like Aqua is Latin for water). This was just based off headcanons I wrote down, and it transformed to this. I almost cried when I was writing her death. Aqua is my favourite out of the supporting spirits, mainly design wise.(Ventus or Iris would probably be my main favourite.)
