Wisteria groaned as she wiped the sweat off her brow. She'd been working on the old chevy truck for hours trying to get it to start up again. It was the only working vehicle in their Community. Everyone was counting on Wisteria and her father, Dug, to fix it. She sighed.
"Dad..." She exhaled heavily. Her father rolled from under the car.
"Yes pumpkin?" He said eyes enlarged with his circular glasses.
"Betsy won't start up. The engines warn out. We need a new one." She said the last part quietly. Knowing how expensive it would be to found and then purchase a new engine. Her father sighed.
"I know pumpkin. I was hopin' we could still get a little bit more outta Betsy. I'll talk to mom about it, well come up with the money somehow." He said scratching his grey and black beard. He went back under the car. "I'll finish down here. You go to the stream and wash up. Mom should be done with dinner soon." He said to Wisteria who nodded, forgetting he can see her.
"Okay dad." She said. She'd been up since dawn trying to get the car back into shape with what little tools and parts they had. She still had the old renche in her hand. She was headed out the shied to the stream when her older brother, Mack, almost ran into her.
"Whoa Mack! Where's the fire?" Wisteria asked him with a laugh before she saw the panic in his eyes.
"Have you seen Tommy? Is he in here? Tommy!" He called out.
"Hold on were's the fire he's probably just wandering around near mom somewhere." She said, Tommy was their curious three year old brother who loved wandering around. She grabbed his hand to calm him down. But he shook her off.
"No! The sentinels are patrolling the area! You know how those Sups are towards humans!" He said panicking again. Sups were the supernatural creatures (vampires, werewolves, shifters, etc.) that ruled our world and shoved us into the ruined sectors on the outskirts of the cities.
Never enough to eat.
Never enough to drink.
Always in fear.
Wisteria's eyes widened to saucers  as she ran past her brother and began running towards the wooded area behind their house that Tommy loved to play in.
"Tommy!" She called and got no response. She saw her mother, also looked for Tommy. The  cooking in the huge pot their dinner dormant while she hecticly searched around.
"Wisteria go by the roads and look for him, now!" She demanded her. Wisteria's lips tightened but she still turned and ran towards the road. "Tommy!" She called again as she ran down the road.
"WISTY!" She heard his cry. She pushed her legs faster as she turned and saw a sentinel standing over her little brother, his knee scrapped and bloody and the Vampire staring at him hungrily.
"NO!" She screamed out as she charged at him. She threw the rench she still held in her hand at the sentinel and it connected with his skull. Though she threw the large rench as hard as she could the impact was that of a softball to him. Yet it still pissed him off. He turned his blood red eyes towards her and in a second she went from running towards her brother to gasping for her breath on the ground. He foot crushing her chest.
"How dare you, you fat human PIG!" He growled at her, applying more pressure. A second sentinel showed up. He wore a white uniform. Showing that he was of higher power.
His golden eyes glowed with anger.
"What's going on here, Johnson?" The vampire above her, Johnson, growled.
"That little brat there was wandering the roads alone when he cut himself running from me. Then this pig! He spat the word at Wisteria. "Threw a rench at me! In violation of the law. Any human to attack a vampire, will be subject to being broken and sold in the human trade." He said with an evil grin as he saw my eyes widen at his words.
"No! Till you can't! You would've killed my brother you parasite!" She yelled at him. He laughed. And so did the other sentinel.
"Doesn't matter girl. The laws the law." The sentinel in white said, then he nodded to the parasite Johnson, who pulled Wisteria's hands forward and put Traps around them. Traps were like the futuristic handcuffs of the Supernatural world.
"Let Wisty go!" Tommy cried. She looked back over to him. I
"Tommy, go get Mack. Everything's going to be okay. I love you Tommy, now go." He just stood there, confused and scared. He took a step towards Wisteria.
"Go now Tommy!" She yelled at him and he ran away. Tears streamed down Wisteria's face she knew things wouldn't be okay.
"Lets go pig." The sentinel said as he roughly  picked Wisteria up and slung her over his shoulder like a bad of flour.
"Please let me say goodbye!" She said kicking at him. He laughed.
"LET HER GO!" She heard Mark yell before see saw the Golden eyed sentinel pull a gun out and point it at him.
"Stand down, Human. Unless you want the next step to be your last." He said with a smirk.
"Mark! Do what he says!" Wisteria says turning her head so that she's looking him in the eyes. She sees her father running up behind them. His face in anguish at the sight of her. Her fathers was furious.
"Give my daughter back! She's done nothing wrong!" Her father yells. Wisteria sees more neighbors stepping out of their homes. She expects them to take one look at the sentinels and close their ruined doors back. But they don't. Instead they come outside and walk towards them. Mr. Allen held a crowbar high as he yelled
"Let the girl go! I saw the whole thing. She was defending herself!" Others soon left their houses and joined in.
The whole community soon seemed to be outside yelling at the sentinels. The sentinel holding Wisteria growled and threw her on the ground. She let out a pained cry as she hit the cement.
"You all have ten seconds to head back to your homes. Now!" He said pulling out his gun and pointing it at them. No one moved.
"5." He started and they stood just as defiantly as before. Why aren't they leaving? I'm just one person! Wisteria thought.
"Go! Before they shoot!" She called out, scared of what would happen if they didn't.
"4." He continued. Mack turned to her.
"Wisteria you've helped more people in this community than there are people in this community." He said with a short laugh. "You're important and we all love you. And I'm not moving until they let you outta that Trap." He said eyeing the sentinels with hatred. It was true. Wisteria, Mack and her father and mother were the only engineers left in this Community. Their lifeblood.
"3."
"Mack, Dad, everyone! Don't be stupid go home! Please!" She begged. And her neighbor Ms. Waller sighed.
"Ain't much of a home to go back to." She said sadly!
"2!" He was smiling now. As if he couldn't wait for the slaughter.
"DAD WHAT ABOUT TOMMY! WHO'LL TAKE CARE OF HIM AND MOM IF YOUR ALL DEAD! TOMMYS THE ONLY CHILD LEFT DONT LEAVE HIM!" She screamed tears running down her face.
They all shook their heads.
"They can't kill us all." Her father said proudly.
"1." The sentinel said while laughing and lowering his gun. "He's right the two of us can't kill all fifty of you." He said and Wisteria sighed in relief.
He let out a high pitched whistle and twenty other sentinels jumped out from behind the old buildings. Everyone jumped in fear and shock.
"Kill them." The sentinel said and they charged.
"NO!" Wisteria screamed as they clashed with the people of her community. One grabbing Mark by his head and ripping it clean off. The blood splattering on her face.
"MARK!" She screamed in horror as she watched the same thing happen to others. Her screams were endless tearing out of her throat as she watched dozens of her closest friends being murdered before her eyes.
"Stop!" Said the sentinel in the white uniform. Everything stopped only eleven people remained. Bruised and bloody and alive. One of which being her father. But she couldn't stop screaming....
The blood, the sight of the dismembered head on the ground, their lifeless eyes staring back at her. A sentinel growled and marched up to her.
"Wisteria..." He father said weakly reaching up for her. And that was the last thing she saw before the guards fist connected with her face.
