"Camden, why did you put pumpkins on the shopping list? You hate the taste of them."
"Do you know what tomorrow is? Halloween! And I haven't carved a single pumpkin!" Camden cried dramatically, throwing his hands in the air in devastation. "We must carve some today!"
"That's a waste of a perfectly good fruit." Alistair never understood why humans, such starving creatures, were obsessed with making decor with food. Easter eggs, jack-o'lanterns, popcorn garlands. It just seemed so wasteful.
"We can eat the insides. It's just the shell I want, anyway." He took a sip of water. "When you go to the store, can you get some soda too? I forgot to put it on the list."
"That's a fast road to death. So much sugar." Alistair tsked. "What type?"
"I don't know, something dark. Light sodas can't hold a candle to good ol' cola."
"Anything else?"
"Chips?" Camden replied, more question than answer. "You can pick the flavor."
"Why would I pick the flavor when you know I can't taste it?"
Camden shrugged. "I was just trying to be nice. Get salt and vinegar."
Alistair grimaced at the choice, imagining the saltiness of the sea and the pucker-y sourness of the vinegar.
"Okay. I'll be back soon." Alistair walked off from the kitchen to grab his coat from the mudroom when Camden called him back.
"What?"
"Carry me to the couch?" Camden asked with those big, pleading eyes.
Alistair rolled his eyes but complied, holding Camden so delicately that the human blushed and nibbled on his lower lip.
"Anything else?"
"Remote?"
Alistair handed the television remote over, then slipped on his shoes and coat, embracing the freezing cold, knowing it would have no negative effect even as the icy winds bit into his cheeks.
He stepped into one of Camden's many cars and sped off to the grocery store that Camden likes the most.
He paid the twenty-five cents for a cart and drove off into the store, avoiding the lecherous stares from single mothers. Once upon a time, he would've taken them up for a quick one-night stand and a meal, but now he just ignores them. He has a pretty little thing of his own back at home, sex and blood whenever he needs.
It's nice to finally have a place to call home.
He squinted under the harsh fluorescent lights that surely did more damage than good as he grabbed Camden's requested items, avoiding the flirty stare of the adolescent girl behind the register.
He stuffed the groceries unbagged as he had forgotten Camden's cooler bag and paid with the cash in a white envelope Camden guess-imated, and promptly left, unpacking the cart into the trunk, returning the cart to the cart park area and sitting in the driver's seat for the short ride home.
He re-entered the mansion, clutching onto the groceries with dear life as Camden watched on from the couch, viciously slapping at the seat next to him. "Bring the candy, soda, and chips, please!"
