Maya
Music played from my speakers, as I combed through my hair. I mouthed the words to 'Jocelyn Flores' by X as I worked through my 4c hair.
I'd honeslty rather be laying up in bed, but today was the first day, at my new school, and I 'couldn't skip' according to my mother.
I slicked my hair back, and tied it into a side bun, and began looking through my closet.
"Maya, we got to go!" A muffled voice came from downstairs, her mother rushing her even though they had a good twenty minutes left.
"Ma I'm coming!" I yelled back. "Shit..."
"Better watch that damn mouth!" She yelled back, and I chuckled slightly, my mother's threats amusing to me, even though I knew she wouldn't do anything.
I look though my clothes, before settling on a pink over the shoulder top, and a pair of black high-waisted pants.
I hurriedly got dressed, and ran down the stairs, meeting the angry face of my mom.
"I told your ass to be down here ten minutes ago! Shit we about to be late!" My mom said, crossing her arms.
I sighed, letting her go in on me, but suprisingly she didn't. Hm.
"Your dad said have a good day." She said, slinging the purse on her shoulder, and grabbing her keys.
I inhaled sharply at the mention of my dad, the memories of why we moved to real for me.
* flashback *
"What the fuck!" Ma said, slapping my dad. The sound of her hand against his brown skin ran across the house.
I stood, inside my room, letting the he tears fall freely, the fighting becoming too much.
I started shaking, really bad.
"What is happ-"
"Maya." My mom said, her voice coming my clear.
"Baby you ok?" She asked me, looking down at me. "Yea...I'm fine." My hands went to my arm, and I scratched it awkwardly.
"Alright let's go."

The car ride there though the Atlanta city was quiet but comforting, my mind all over the place.
Moving here all the way from Pennslyvania really messed me up, and I mean big time.
I was so used to my little neighborhood, and my group of friends, and I was content.
But than, things got worse, and my whole family was split up as it is.
My two sisters, and my dad moved to Arkansas, which is halfway across the country, for his new job.
Meanwhile, me and Ma were stuck in Atlanta with some family, she said she always wanted to come back, and now was the perfect chance.
