The knock on the door is prominent and cuts through the quiet of my empty house. I've somehow managed to keep the date a secret, but by some miracle the house is empty.
I swipe my top lashes one more time before I leave to answer the door.
"Hi, Harry." I'm surprised to see only him. Although, I don't know why. I've never seen him on a 'date' with security.
"Hello." He's chewing gum and he moves in to hug me. I don't think that I comprehend but my body responds automatically. My arms wrap around his ribs and his around my shoulders, fitting seemingly perfect.
"You can come in if you want."
He steps past me clearing his throat.
"Do you want some water or something?" My nerves are running a mile a minute. Why didn't I just walk out of the door. I don't even know how to entertain an entertainer. I don't know how to entertain a normal person.
"No, thank you."
"Okay, I'll finish and you can have a seat." My cheeks are hurting from all of the smiling. I haven't stopped since he knocked on the door.
"Okay." He smiles wider. His beautiful, wonderful smile.
I walk faster than normal to my room and check that my hair isn't frizzy. I put on lipstick and decide to wipe it off. What if he wants to kiss me.
That thought alone sends my mind and body into a frenzy. I put the lipstick back on. If he wants to kiss me he'll do it in spite of my lipstick. I look too plain without it. Secretly I am hoping it acts as a guard and keeps him away. I'm scared to death of possibly kissing Harry.
"Harry?" I ask when I step into the livingroom.
"Yeah?"
"Already."
"You look amazing." He holds his hand out for mine, again my body reacts and clasps around his.
**
The entire ride was weird and awkward. He asked me things about my life and school. I feel obligated to ask him similar things. Majority of the things I had already known. By dessert everything is more relaxed.
We eat ice cream across the street and laugh over Friends trivia. This ice cream parlor has tv themed table settings and you can play the trivia games as you eat.
"Phoebe had the triplets." I assure him.
"No, it was definitely Ross."
"Definitely, not." I object. "He had two kids and a monkey."
He checks the number on the back and we both search the table for the answer.
"See, here it is. Phoebe!" I exclaim. It's not that I'm competitive, but rarely am I right. So when I am, I celebrate.
"Congratulations, you've won." He tells me in his thick accent.
"Thank You."
"This was really fun." He looks me in my eyes. I know that he has a tendency to watch people's mouths as they talk. It mesmerizes me and I forget what I'm saying while I talk.
"Yeah." I say after a beat of watching him lick icecream from his cone. "I had fun, too." This is the closing sentence. Between now and him dropping me off at home will determine our future. If we have one or not.
"Are you ready to go?"
"Yes." We toss our leftover dessert into the trash and head for his car. He was only stopped for three pictures during this entire time and we've barely been bothered.
We talk about music on the way home. I wasn't aware that he knew so many of my favorite musicians, like the lead singer of safety suit. My favorite.
"I love them." I say automatically without thinking. "I mean their music, not them personally. I don't know them personally."
Harry laughs at my outburst.
"It's fine. I know what you meant." He smiles and glances at me and back to the road.
**
"Thank you for an incredible night. It was great just being with you."
"Thank you." I whisper. I am so nervous about him walking me to my door. Whay if he kisses me. I freshened my lipstick in the car.
Panic sets in when he leans in, his eyes closing as he closes in. I close my eyes to because that's what people usually do right? His lips are soft and he's not pushing against them like I thought would happen. He pulls back after seconds.
"Thank you, Harry, for tonight."
"Anytime Chelsea."
