"Shadowystar! Shadowystar! Shadowystar!" Mews echoed around the camp. A grey she-cat lifted her head, relishing the praise and approval in her clan mates voices.

I will fix every problem this clan has ever had, she thought.

A white tom padded to her side and whispered, "Shadowystar, we need to talk."

Shadowystar flicked her grey tail and said, "I will meet you in my den."

The tom twitched his ears and padded towards a hole in a rock, almost as tall as a redwood tree. Shadowystar looked down at her clanmates, raising her tail for silence. All cats quieted except for a milky white tom.

The tom kept chanting until a black she-cat silenced him by whispering, "Shhh. We stopped."

Shadowystar blinked and shouted, "I, Shadowystar-" before getting cut of by yowls of happiness. Shadowystar narrowed her eyes at the group of cats below. "I, Shadowystar, will never abandon this clan! I shall make us great again! Grasshopperfur is our new deputy, as some of you already know. Nobody will ever hurt us again! These are my parting words, I will see you after my visit to The Sacred Birch." Shadowystar flicked her tail and padded into her den.

She was greeted by a smiling Grasshopperfur, who was sitting next to her nest. "What did you need?" She asked him, her tail flicking impatiently.

"Well, I thought when you go to The Sacred Birch, you could take Hazingpool," the tom ventured.

The grey she-cat's hazel eyes widened with shock. "What would make you think that?" She growled.

"She needs to go soon..." He mewed, careful not to set her off.

"She has learned all of the herbs. Hazingpool is ready," the black she-cat from the clearing walked into the den. "We need to find her a suiting medicine cat name," she said, her tail and chin held high.

"You are right, Whisper Of Darkness. She must receive her name now, before it is too late," Grasshopperfur praised.

"I do not know why. Is there a time limit?" Shadowystar mewed. The grey she-cat frowned and thought, You are both wrong. She mustn't become a full medicine cat.

Grasshopperfur narrowed his eyes and whispered, "There is. If she doesn't by the time she is 20 moons, she will never be able to become a full medicine cat."

"Do not forget that I am your leader. I tell you right from wrong. I tell you who to trust. I inform you who our enemies and allies are," Shadowystar mewed.

"And I am the deputy. I happen to be older then you, 5 moons to be exact," Grasshopperfur argued.

"I am your medicine cat. I have a connection with the stars more than anyone except Hazingpool. We are one and the same," The black cat mewed, lashing her tail angrily.

"I will think about it," Shadowystar sighed. She laid down in her nest as Grasshopperfur scowled. He shook his head and shouldered through the hanging moss covering the entrance to the den. Shadowystar whispered, "Whisperingdarkness... You may." Whisper Of Darkness whipped around, her orange eyes glowing with shock.

"I am not an apprentice anymore! You cannot call me by my warrior name, only my medicine cat name!"

"No. I will call you what I like. You will always be Whisperingdarkness to me," Shadowystar sighed, looking up at the small she-cat.

Whisper Of Darkness scoffed and ran out of the den, leaving Shadowystar to brood alone. The clan will be safe, Shadowystar tried to convince herself. Nothing will ever harm us... The troubled she-cat drifted into an uneasy sleep.

Shadowystar awoke in a den much like her own, there were scratch marks on the walls and she heard whispers of unseen cats. StarClan! She held her chin high and exited her den.

Shadowystar sniffed the air and recoiled at the scent of which the air tasted. It was putrid, like crowfoot but, also like dung. She crinkled her nose, disgusted and turned her head to the source of the smell. A small kit laid next to the entrance of her den, covered in fox dung and maggots.

"Tallkit!" Shadowystar shouted. Shadowystar looked up to see Grasshopperfur, Yellowgaze, and Fluffyheart run into camp. Grasshopperfur's paws looked slightly red but, dirt soon coated his paws thoroughly as he ran towards Shadowystar.

"What happened?" Grasshopperfur shouted, shaking at the sight. A small noise came from the body as it started to spasm. The kit stood up, shaky with laughter.

"I-I got you good!" Tallkit laughed, shaking maggots off of her pelt. The kit fell to her side, sore from laughing so hard. Grasshopperfur's eyes hardened as he cuffed the kit on the ears hard. "Ow..." Tallkit whispered and started crying.

"No! Can you not take a joke?" A voice shouted, the ground thudded as paws hit it hard, running to Tallkit. Nightflame reached her kit and picked her up.

"Are you alright?" She asked her kit worriedly. Nightflame shot an angry glare at Grasshopperfur before whisking Tallkit away.

Grasshopperfur whispered, "I didn't mean to make her cry..." The distraught tom made his way slowly to the warriors den. He met up with Deerfoot, who asked Grasshopperfur, "What happened with my kit?" Grasshopperfur ignored him and proceeded into the den, his tail and head drooping.

Shadowystar watched the scene in front of her, most of the clan taking no notice to what Tallkit just did. She saw a certain tom in particular, Flamejaw. Help me, Flamejaw.

Flamejaw saw Shadowystar staring at him and grinned. He shook his head and raced over to his leader. "Were you staring... At me?" He asked curiously, cocking his head.

"Uh... Yes. I was wondering if you would want to mentor Tallkit," Shadowystar mewed absentmindedly.

"Uh... She is still a kit..." Flamejaw mewed. Flamejaw opened his orange muzzle to say something but, clamped it shut.

"When she becomes six moons. What were you going to say? Do not be afraid," Shadowystar laughed. She flicked her tail and dug her claws into the soil.

"You need to check up on Grasshopperfur's loyalty..." Flame jaw whispered trailing off.
